I was rushed to the hospital yesterday. I was so weak, and my stomach hurt so bad.
I know you’re gonna think this is crazy, but I didn’t tell him that I was in recovery. I didn’t want it to affect how they treated me as a patient. And I was right in doing so because for the first 3 hours they treated me like I was only there for drugs. And they didn’t figure out that I wasn’t lying until they ran all those tests and found out that I was in severe pain and for a good reason!
The doctors said I was severely dehydrated and had to get a CT scan on my stomach.
My pancreas was badly irritated, and I also have a virus. I had to be kept for 24 hours to make sure that it didn’t turn into pancreatitis and that I got enough fluids, to be safe enough to go home.
This has been so scary. Has detoxing ever caused anyone else to become a severely ill like this?
Glad you’re back home. I’ve never ended up with those symptoms while detoxing, but it really doesn’t surprise me. Alcohol does all different kinds of damage, and effects everyone different.
That sounds like a scary and frustrating experience. I am grateful that they finally got to the root cause. Hopefully you are staying hydrated and starting to feel better.
Detoxing is harsh on the body. It can be stressful on the organs and draining on your body. Make sure to be gentle with yourself - get rest and fluids and make sure you are replacing your nutrients.
I wound up in a hospital with a pancreatitis attack about three years ago. It was God awful, and I feel your pain. I was really scared they were going to find sirosis when they did that CT scan on me. That was my big wake up call to get sober.
Thank you! I am doing a lot better then I was a few days ago. I guess you never really know what to expect when detoxing. I mean you know there will be pain, sadness/anxiety and feeling sick but you never really know the toll it’s going to take on your body until you have to go through it.
