Wash rice before cooking?

The video below was really interesting and I thought it would make a fun topic here.

Do you wash your rice before cooking it? Why or why not??

Yes!!
Because it cooks way better. The rice comes out all fluffy and moist.

I had never washed rice until like 10 years ago. We were mAking a kind of community meal with the neighbors and my little Korean neighbor lady showed me how to “properly” cook rice .
Done it ever since

Depends on type. Parboiled/converted longer cooking rice, I don’t rinse. Jasmine & basmati, I do

I learned to cook rice from my Filipina ex-wife. Yes, I wash the rice until the water is clear, and then add water until I can touch the top of the settled rice, and the water comes to the first joint of my middle finger. Perfect rice, every time.

Thank you!
It is very satisfying watching all that milky water stop coming off the rice

I get the rice that’s already cooked and only needs to be heated in the microwave. But when I used to cook it, yes, I rinsed it. You have to rinse it multiple times until the water runs clear.

Yes, and did u know u that the water contains minerals and u can use the water for “waxing” wooden floors, watering plants and even a face lotion.

I did not know that! Though I never have water left over to use for such things, but still very interesting!

I know I should and I don’t. I just throw it all in the rice cooker and wait. I do use the same method of water measuring as @Yoda-Stevie. I don’t use a measuring cup.

Yep, it’s a requirement in my household.

I wash.
Never used to as a youngster, but as I grew up I learnt and respected the error of my ways.
Washing gives far superior results, unless you are after sticky, glutinous stodge (which some desserts call for)

I do not rinse, and you alcoholics and addicts can’t make me! I lived in Japan for 6.5 yrs, none of my Okinawan neighbors bitched about my rice. Plus, sticky rice rocks with curry and especially taco, rice & cheese (@Yoda-Stevie knows about that masterpiece! )
