Weekend drinker guilt

I try to only drink on weekends and I do good some weeks. When I do drink it’s about 3-5 shots which I sip on. But the next day I’m left with nothing but guilt and hoping I didn’t call or text ppl

Welcome Mrs. 911
I’ve seen so many people “TRY”…….. fill in the blank ……. Drinking.
I feel if you are “trying” that means you are trying to control something you can’t control. But only you know if you have a drinking problem.

I was lucky. My life didn’t become totally unmanageable before I stopped drinking. Many others… not so lucky.

Have a good read around. Many knowledgeable people on this great sober app. They all helped me get sober. AF Alcohol Free. I’m so grateful I did before it got too late.

That guilt and regret is an awful feeling, especially combined with blackouts / not remembering if you called or texted anyone. I hated all that so much. The beauty of sobriety is you can let all that worrying, regret, shame and hangxiety go. You never have to feel like that again. It is very freeing and makes you proud of yourself…and we all need some of that I think. It is okay to not drink. :people_hugging:

And welcome!!!

@Mrs911 Welcome to the best sobriety community online

I think @Dazercat Eric has hit the nail right on the head.

If you’re trying and failing, then you just might have a problem.
And, you might just want to do something about it?

I have never and will never tell anyone they are an alcoholic.
That is a question they must answer for themselves.

But, you don’t have to be a daily drinker or drinking to blackout.
It doesn’t matter when you drink or how much you drink.
If after that first drink you can’t or struggle to stop drinking you may have a real problem with alcohol.

But, alcohol is a powerful, divisive and deceiving drug, and alcoholism is about the only disease that tries to convince you, and it usually does, that you haven’t got it.

So, if you decide you have a problem, and just maybe, even slightly alcoholic, you’re going to need help to stop drinking.
99% of us can’t do it alone we need, support, understanding and a way to live without alcohol.

This community is a great place to start.
Here you will have most if not all your questions answered.
We are all in the same boat with one addiction or another.
We are all seaking help, and without a doubt you will find that here in abundance.
Dig in and read, read, read.

Remember, if alcohol is no longer a part of your life, you will never have to experience the guilt and shame you described and that @SassyRocks so abley amplified upon.

Stay strong, stay safe and keep coming back.
