I’m fairly handy with fixing things, building things and such, so I do most of my automobile work. I got myself into a bowl of shit this weekend changing out a hub assembly on my 21 rav4 hybrid… First of all the wrong part came in and secondly the speed sensor got mangled up when I pulled the hub (my fault, should’ve put the sensor as precaution). So here I sit waiting for more parts, it’s hard to get parts for cars typically still under warranty… I drive 48,000 miles per year for work so my warranty is long gone.
anyone else wrenching on things? what you working on?
I don’t know diddly about mechanics lol, but I am handy. I do like working with my hands, like assembling furniture or odd projects. I fixed my washer and my freezer before. And once I was so stressed that I wallpapered an accent wall in my living room!
I used to work on my cars, back when they were fairly simple. I’ve replaced easy things like alternators, brakes (pads, cylinders, rotors), clutches, transmissions, water pumps, u-joints, ball joints, and got elbow deep in a head job once(aborted when I had to pull the tranny off to finish, the car sat in garage for about 10 years).
Most recently I tried troubleshooting an ABS fault in my wifes Escape and royally fudged it up. I rounded the philips head screw on the speed sensor, i figured the best solution was drilling it out, and welp, I kept digging my self in deeper hole. Gave up, traded it in…
Honestly, I suck as a mechanic, I don’t have the patience nor experience to solve problems when things go sideways, and they usually do go sideways. Same with building things in general, I am just not good at it.
