Went to a party and enjoyed the root beer!

The hubby and I went to a big party where there was plenty of beer and wine. We both enjoyed the great food, visited with nice people, enjoyed our glasses of root beer and headed home safely at a time that makes my bedtime routine stick!

I’m really proud of us. This same event last September would have seen us both drink too much, drive home thinking we could do it, and spend the night and next day sick and hungover. We’ve come a long way.

I’m at 10 months and he is at 4 months sober. Look at us go!

That is so awesome!! Congrats on 10 months and 4 to your hubby! You guys are inspiring! I am only on 60 days…I went to a party at a friends house tonight where i have gotten drunk many times in the past…had just as much fun enjoying my cola! I am finding comfort in the fact i will always be a safe DD for my hubby now when we go out

Further proof that there is life after sobriety! And that life is pretty fun! Great job just having an honest good time :slightly_smiling_face:

Way to go! 60 days is a big milestone and each week makes it more and more normal. Keep up the good work!

This is such an amazing perspective that I didn’t even think of! I am only a little over 24 hours sober and having a ton of anxiety about how my boyfriend and I will do with it. He is extremely supportive of me choosing sobriety but this is all new for me and us. Im just super anxious about all of it. A lot of what we do revolves around alcohol…going to dinners, friends houses, bars… but he doesn’t get to that out of control place like I do. So for him having a few drinks is okay. I like looking at it as being his DD.

Congrats and It help to read encouraging testimonies. I went to a Big music festival Yesterday and today and it was hard at the beginning because everybody drinks and offered me free drinks but I eat instead and enjoyed every minutes. Other years it was the chase for drinks and finding toilets so I’m very proud and you two Can also be too.

I read lots of testimonials. They definitely help. It should be more normal to be sober. By sharing our stories we are also making it more normal.

Way to go on enjoying the music festival and taking good care of yourself!

Thank you all for your kind words. The support and info from this group has been key for me.

In this group I learned about HALT (hungry , angry, lonely, tired). We made sure we had a snack before we went to the party because we did not know what the food situation would really be and we were going at our dinner time. That helped. We talked about how we would manage the presence of alcohol. I brought my own ice water. And we did agree we would not stay very late. I was glad we had the snack. These are all aspects of recovery and avoiding relapse that I had no clue about before joining this group last year. I thought it was just a hard thing that an alcoholic would try, just don’t drink. And while just don’t drink is what we did, we went in with plans and supports. I can’t thank you all enough.
