What 'ales' you? Aches, pain and such

Thank you, yes I’m using this app more and I have been looking for groups near me! My day one was three days ago but I’m so excited to push through and see myself a year, 2 years from now! Thankful for today and my next steps!!

It’s great that you’re aware of the time of day and feelings around craving something sweet. Seems like you have a healthier plan in place, instead of heading for sugary stuff. That dopamine hit can be hard to control. Learning new, healthier options for calming that hit is part of my journey to rewire my addictive brain. It’s a hard slog, but I am slowly replacing salty snacks with tasty fruit and veg ones. That’s working for me, but the struggle is real!

It seems like you’re reading my mind! A new super power of sobriety perhaps?

I agree. I don’t want this to turn into picking on the elderly. There are terrible drivers of all ages. Just my story singled out the elderly. I’m closer to retirement than I care to admit. I hope I can have the presence of mind to know when I should eventually hand my keys in.

This is what I meant by not trying to insult people. Mental disability does not equal stupidity. I’ll give you another example…those people that go into the stores in hordes to rob it…thats stupid…someone who chooses to do something stupid when they are perfectly capable of getting a job…stupid, and let me be clear. The things we do on drugs or for drugs is part of our illness. Therefore…Not stupid. I just don’t understand the mentality of some human beings. Some people are perfectly capable and choose to do stupid things…I live in one of the worst places to drive and it’s full of stupid people. They cut you off, hit your car and then try to blame you. That’s stupidity at its best. Then then cry when you use self defense . I love self defense lol. I also love my dash cam because it’s saves my ass a few times. I hope no one is insulted by my words. If you are…my bad.

Congratulations on your new bub! Not sure if this is true for you, but when we had our first child, 45 min sleep cycles were gruelling. We both noticed increased sugar intake to temporarily curb sleep deprivation. Damn those processed foods for being convenient, cheap and sometimes tasty!

Me too! I’ve practiced martial arts, combat sports and self defence in various forms over my lifetime. I enjoy the discipline, respect, and confidence benefits from training. Not to mention fitness! Alcohol addiction put self defence on the shelf for years. Now, I’ve signed up to a fight gym with my kids to reconnect with a passion on my sober journey. What do you practice?

Yes! That’s the best…but sadly, its difficult to give someone a good beat down without getting shot lmfao. I try my best not to carry :no_mouth: but sometimes it is necessary. I will not be a victim of someones bullets. I’ve been shot at a few times…I got my license after the first time.

These days it’s better to be prepared. I live in Australia, where gun laws are strict and carrying is only allowed as part of your job-LEO, security guard etc. I enjoy trap shooting, though not proficient by any means. Civilians can’t train for self defence with firearms here (I think). If we could carry, I would. But each to their own. For now I’ll train my body and mind in the gym. Without a doubt, I’ll be posting my new aches and pains from Monday onwards :metal:

Thank you! Yes I’m trying to curb it. Strawberries for dessert tonight :yum: and oh you are fine! I didnt take it that way at all, just venting plus honestly there is truth in it lol All good! Thank you so much! He is a ham. Weighing in at 16lbs  and you know that is a really good point. I never thought of that and i do get tired around 8 which is 2 hrs before my bedtime. Ugh processed food is the worse but it incredibly challenging to avoid. The best we can do, is make small changes toward being healthy

Wow he is a big fella! Hopefully, you have lots of squishy rolls to smoosh. Regarding cutting out processed foods, baby steps are still heading in the right direction. You learn to crawl, before you walk, much like sobriety. Ok, I’ll stop the baby references now :baby:

Today marks 20 days AF for me. I never thought I would make it this far. I’m rewarding myself with a bakery treat every 10 days of sobriety, gotta watch the spare tyre around my waist though.
Poo talk warning
Prior to sobriety, my bowel movements used to be in the morning like clockwork. Now, they are all over the place. Sometimes I go a day without one, but not feeling constipated. Has anyone else experienced this or similar? Additionally, I’ve had a daily headache that intensifies then reduces every 3-4 days. Is this common for sobriety?
On a positive note, I am battered, sore and aching all over from attending my first Muay Thai class in 14 years. I could be an actor, as I did an excellent impersonation of a punch and kick bag during sparring :face_with_head_bandage:

Congrats on 20 days! Treat yourself with something yummy  Spare tire problem? Easy solution - celebrate with some banana bread! Does it taste like a cake? Yes. Is it delicious? Yes. Is it cake? No! The name says it all - its BREAD! No guilt. Let me know if you need more tips and tricks
About headaches - are you drinking enough water? Sometimes i forget to drink, or i have more coffees than water, and it gives me very annoying headache. Maybe this is the issue?
Also, when I stopped drinking, i started to notice my headache more. Its like, before I just thought well, ofcourse i have headache, after all this alco yesterday… Now I know I can’t blame alcohol for every headache I have so I’m paying bigger attention to my body pain and aches.

Thanks for the encouragement and nutrition tip. I do like banana bread! The spare tyre is disappearing due to new training in Muay Thai, eating well and of course, no alcohol. That’s why I’m saving those bakery visits for 10 day milestones, and limiting myself to one meat pie and maybe a sweet ( I’m not a sweet tooth, but my better half is).
Water has always been my fav drink, even before sobriety. Since sobriety, my water intake has increased, besides tea/coffee, to around 2.5 litres of water daily. I don’t like sweet drinks, so sparkling water with a squeeze of lemon is my go to when I crave bubbles. I’m well hydrated.
Good point about noticing headaches more in sobriety. Google tells me it may be related to PAWS (post acute withdrawal syndrome). In part, the brain is trying to adapt to functioning without alcohol. Essentially learning to operate ‘normally’. The headaches can occur daily, as in my case, fluctuate in intensity and last anywhere up to 2 or more years. I figure, even if I have a daily headache for the rest of my life, it’s a small cost compared to the benefits of staying sober.

lol, I’m in that camp as well. Been taking Metamucil fairly regularly the past couple weeks. While still not “regular” it has helped a lot.

I’ve been struggling with groin and or hip flexor pain for the past while. I’m gonna need to get my lazy arse to a physiotherapist here soon as it bugs the hell out of me when hitting the treadmill which will translate to the trail when I get out in hiking season.

I’m 34 days sober and still having killer headaches. My pcp said they were rebound headaches from taking something every day for them. She told me to stop taking anything for 2 weeks. By day 2 my headaches were even more severe, where I couldn’t even get out of bed. Has anyone found anything to help with the headaches?
