What has helped your ADHD besides drugs?

So I’m 99.9% sure I have ADHD. I used Adderall for a while to manage it, then moved onto coke when that stopped working, and then onto meth when coke was no longer affective. I still want to stay sober when it’s hard to feel capable of anything due to my ADHD, which makes me lethargic and distracted. Has anyone else followed a similar path, and what works for you?

Yea I have got adhd and tbh I never related it I always just thought I was a mess head but it does kind of make Sence. I have got a thc vape that whilst trying to get clean on white, alc and tobacco I do still use the vape, it takes the edge off me because when I get to a week ish I litrelly am running, punching, bobbing and diving. I have to say I managed a couple of months when I went away and the outher side is more than green, I think the drugs were actually making it all worse tbh, makes the short tearm feel better but the long tearm worse… A month maybe just over and I was a different person.

Maybe try changing your thought on it because for me yes dropping the drugs make me so much worse for a while but after that I am so much better. In my mind it’s the drugs making it all worse and it’s the drugs way of keeping a hold on you. Fuck that hold. Playing on your weeknesses…

How long have you been on drugs and do you remember being clean?

I do remember being clean, but when I tried Adderall six months ago it felt like everything changed for me — I could think clearly and get things done. But then it stopped working, and I eventually got onto meth. It’s hard to stop because I know how much I struggle to do basic tasks without help but I know there’s gotta be other options or home remedies out there?

ADHD person here, diagnosed since 2021, regularly speaking with my medical doctor about it, taking medication as prescribed. I also work on some CBT strategies to help me with my emotions. I meet with my psychotherapist every two weeks about that.

Have you spoken with your doctor? There are various options, including non-stimulant treatments. But the whole process starts by talking to a real psychiatrist or a legitimate medical doctor (sometimes the doctor will refer you to the psychiatrist for a second opinion, to be sure). Be sure to tell the doctor about your history with ice and with under-the-table Adderrall. That information will help the doctor develop an effective treatment for you.

I would not recommend home remedies. There are plenty of carefully prepared, effective, proven remedies that can be found by talking to a medical doctor, and you’re not doing medical testing on yourself (the medical testing has already been done by qualified researchers).

Be sure to ask for a doctor or psychiatrist who has experience treating adults with ADHD (not all of them do).

My ADHD symptoms significantly decreased when I cut out highly processed foods and foods with added sugars/food dyes. As far as beverages go, water and black coffee is it.

There’s been studies done that these can exacerbate ADHD symptoms. Certain food dyes are banned in many parts of Europe because of this and other adverse effects.

Avoiding these doesn’t eliminate ADHD, of course, but I noticed a massive difference when I shifted my diet 12+ yrs ago - especially with my main symptom, which was impulsivity.

My psychiatrist, who is qualified to treat ADHD, has told me as well that generally the first pass approach to treating kids with ADHD is diet changes and exercise. Talk to your own doctor etc, but I found that both made it so much more managable for me.

Good luck!

Personally, I wouldn’t class the medication my shrink prescribes me for my ADHD as ‘drugs.’ Besides that, I find reducing sugar and staying somewhat active helps.

I recently got my ADHD diagnosis, so I’m still trying to figure out what to do. I have an antidepressant (100 mg sertraline) to help with my anxiety that comes from badely managed adhd. Last week, I started Dexedrine, that I only take when I feel like I really need to focus on a tak (during my classes at school, while doing homework, etc) and I really see a difference. For once, I’m actually capable of listening to what is going on in class.
Other than medication, I do rely on coffee a lot to keep me going. I often feel tired, so I chase caffeine, but I’m not so sure if it really helps me. Weed also helps me, but I don’t think that’s healthy. But weed actually makes me SO focused, it amazes me every time !
Taking time to do sport on a regular basis also helps me. I love doing yoga and climbing, which give me endorphines, adrenaline and helps me manage my stress and energy.
But to be honest, with all that, I’m still struggling a lot and it has impacts on my mental health. I will start seeing a psychologist soon, because it feels like to much to manage on my own.
I guess ADHD is something we need to learn how to live with and know when to ask for help. You are not alone :heart_hands:

I have ADHD I was diagnosed when i was 2 but nobody told me so i was left unmedicated until I got sober at 31
Having a peaceful home life stability helps also having a routine that you stick too
Being Straight Edge is also a massive help being able to think clearly is a huge factor
I also burn lavender insents in my house and wash my bedding and lounge clothes in lavender it really really helps keep me calm
