What to do when I feel like drinking? Happens a lot of course but I need some healthy outlets. That’s been the hardest part of every relapse, not partaking in my weekends the way that I use too. And knowing I can’t hang out with certain people because I know me and what choice I will make. It’s not just the drinking I miss. It’s the life. The people. Good for me or not. What are some things I could do when I start to feel like drinking??
Also, what are some opinions on non alcoholic beer?
In early sobriety I went to a meeting during times where I would be likely to have cravings. It worked 100% of the time. Not only did it prevent me from drinking then it also gave me the tools needed to eliminate cravings altogether. Once I got through the steps I have not had any desire to pick back up.
As for non-alcoholic drinks seltzer is good. As is normal water. NA beer is disgusting and pointless. It will lead to a relapse before it will provide any benefit.

Where I live we only have meetings once a week. And I’m typically working that night. So unfortunately I have yet to be able to go to a meeting been trying to find some online though. And yes I’ve tried the non alcoholic beer a few times and it forsure led to relapse. Kinda just frustrated me that it tasted the same but i was getting nothing from it so I get that completely. Maybe I’ll try one of the other things, not big on seltzers but willing to try anything. Thank you

I have found that with drinking comes a certain lifestyle. If you quit the drink but not the lifestyle, you’re gonna have a bad time.
To have any chance at succrss, stepping away from the lifestyle is necessary. That includes all the people, places and things you associate with drinking.
Drinking is, at some point, pleasurable to us, that’s why we do it. So, wanting to drink is inevitable. In some cases, the longer you quit, the more you want to drink. Like with anything you’re quitting, you have to exercise will power, utilize tools and get through the cravings.
The thing that helped me was Changing your Relationship with Alcohol
Changing my relationship helped me no longer crave the drink or the lifestyle.
As for non-alcoholic beer - its the fast track to relapse and plus its empty calories, I wouldn’t touch that.
Quitting it easy, staying quit is hard, but finding a program and working it everyday makes.it possible.
