What type of things to share at meetings?

So I went to my first CA meeting last night. I’ve tried NA before too, but when I’m in groups, I can never think of anything to say, and so I’m wondering if anyone has any hints or tips on what type of things to say in short shares. I’d like to be able to help people, but I dont know where to start. Thanks in advance :slightly_smiling_face:

I go to Recovery Dharma book study meetings and that is a good foundation to base a share on. So you could pick something from the big book (or whatever CA uses), or hit up the motivation and meditation thread on here, and for anything you can relate to your own personal situation, either a struggle or a success, make a note of it?

Or of course, take something from one of your daily check in posts!

Thank you, they use the AA Big Book, I’ve got a digital version of the NA Big Book, not sure if it’s the same. I didn’t take my wallet with me last night, but I’ll be taking the money with me for a physical copy of the AA book next week, once I’ve done plenty of reading maybe I’ll be able to string some sentences together. Another thing I noticed is that a handful of people introduced themselves as a ‘recovered addict’ I’m not sure what this means, so I said I was an addict…

I’d also say don’t worry about it being profound. It’s enough to say I’ve had a good week, or this week I’ve struggled with cravings, I’ve got this stress going on which is making it hard or I really wanted to cave when this happened, but I didn’t.

And of course if you can’t think of anything to say it’s ok to just listen! Although I think it’s cool that you want to share

Share what is on your mind and don’t be scared everyone in the room has their own story and will try relate to help one another

For me it took several weeks, sometimes I just share what I’m feeling or if I related. Sometimes my mind will be blank, so I’m just ok with not sharing. My sponsor says it’s ok to take the cotton balls out of your ears and put them in your mouth. It will come in time. I’ll pray to my higher power and if something comes up then I’ll share, it’s not just about sharing. It’s about becoming useful to your fellows, so that could be through hanging out, doing service work, staying and helping pick up.
