My blood.pressure elevated, but not through the roof. My main concern is vomiting. I can’t keep fluids down and I know I’m dehydrated. This is the second day like this.
I really don’t want to wait in the ER for hours, but I’m worried. My mom has offered to take me.
If you feel the slightest you need to go then please go.
Better fit you to sit there for hours and either get the medical attention you need, it to be sent home and you can put your mind to rest
In my experience (in the US), a trip to the ER will take about 2 to 4 hours, depending on their load.
They will take your vitals assuming they are stable, most likely administer an IV. They may pump you with 2 or 3 bags of saline, give you anti nausea shot/meds, let you rest and send you on your way. They can also give you resources and referrals to alcohol/sunstance abuse services/treatments.
If your vitals are not stable, they may admit you for overnight observation. The thing with dehydration, it only takes 3 days for it to become fatal, so waiting too long is not good.
So, I went. Dr basically told me I’m not going through withdrawal, which is BS, since I’ve gone through this before. Anyway, he did some blood work. And at least I don’t have pancreatitis. He prescribed me anti-nausea meds and sent me on my why. I would have benefited from an IV, since I know I’m dehydrated, but oh well.
If it doesn’t get better or it gets worse then definitely ER, I’m in the UK and A&E which is our version can take over 8 hours to be seen by a Dr, but, to be fair you usually get to see a nurse practitioner within the hour or sooner if it’s serious and immediately if the check in clerk & nurse think your sick enough. But I have heard horror stories of patients waiting over 20 hrs to be seen or even longer if there’s been a major incident
When I got assaulted I was seen by a Dr within 10 mins, something to do with falling off my chair due to the concussion.
If Dan (@HoofHearted) recons 2 to 4 hrs that’s good going. It’s better to be safe than sorry, hopefully the anti-nausea meds will let you get some fluids on board.
Take care and look after yourself. &
