I am a therapist. In a lot of ways this benefits my recovery because I’ve learned and I teach coping skills and I have a good understanding of mental health and addiction. However, I find that my career makes my recovery harder in some ways. Mostly it leads to so much shame that “I should know better”. It also makes it impossible for my to attend 12 step meetings in my community due to having clients in them and that would violate my requirements not to have dual relationships with clients.
My degree is in social work. You’ll love it! Feel free to message me anytime if you have questions or just need another social worker to chat with. Good luck!
I am a former Navy Hospital Corpsman and then an EMT II A on ambulances and a Trauma Center ER in Los Angeles County after the military. I had many different jobs and owned a couple of businesses for a few years. The last 13 years I worked as a Residential Advisor/Youth Counselor at a large residential facility for at risk and disadvantaged youth. I ran a dorm with 80 young men in it. I am now medically retired.
I’m cashier/clerk at a grocery store, although I barely have time to work because I also study, I still manage to squeeze in 9-15 hours a week
