When do cravings stop?

Hey all! I’m relatively new here & the question I keep pondering is at what point does it get easier, if ever ? I’m on day 45 & I still often find myself wanting to drink. Does that feeling ever go away or am I just stuck feeling this way forever ?

Yip it goes away , for me meetings and a strong program helped wish you well

Do you really want a drink or do you just want to escape? Feel better? Relax? Cravings do get better but i find working on the reasons why im wanting a drink alot more beneficial than reaching for something that ultimately helps nothing infact will most likely make it worse

I know for me that regular attendance at AA and working the steps have eliminated cravings.

Thank you, I appreciate it.

They get removed when and only when (for majority of real alcoholics and addicts) we have a psychic change as a result of applying the 12 Steps. If you’re interested in a life of peace and manageability where you’re not fighting urges or swearing off, PM me and I’m willing to help you.

Why does it have to be a private message? Why can’t you just share your experience strength and hope in a normal thread.

I’m an AA guy myself but I’ve been around this forum long enough to have watched people get sober in a variety of different ways. I know it’s been very beneficial to me to learn from everyone’s sobriety.

If you’re as familiar with the forum as you’ve stated I’m confused because I just shared my experience a few days ago titled “Half measures availed me nothing.”

If you’re an “AA guy” because you attend meetings that’s great, but I scour everywhere I can to reach people across the world with the offer or plight of the Power of the 12 Steps. My Sponsor once found me, on a forum, in a PM box.

So I don’t feel it’s necessary to provide explanation but if I were going to here it is:

-The person’s anonymity and privacy. A PM is personal. It’s also perfectly safe hence it being an available feature to use on the forum.

How someone receives the seed is not for us to filter through opinions and concepts, that’s up to God. It’s also of paramount importance to me that this person receives accurate information. What is your motive in even asking me why PM? Did you think since you’ve been around longer than the postee you have a right to “get more” of something this person is clearly searching for? And/or is it that You decided it’s more important for you to inquire and “look right” than it is for this person to be approached and possibly be delivered a life saving tool?

The fore father’s of our program fought tooth and nail to help as many as they could access. I’m confident Bill W. Himself would cosign my method with technology at our disposal in today’s world.

I will continue to offer a private, personal talk about the issue. Nobody is being forced or coereced to accept. This is a deadly illness. I consider with tact but I don’t waste time. I suggest you reassess what the priority here is. You or the newcomer?

I suspect everyone’s journey is different. What works for me may not work for you. As you see in the replies, for some it’s meetings, for some it’s this app, for some it’s meditation and so on.

I’m a pretty simple guy, so simple mantras work for me. The ‘I don’t need this’, the ‘I got this’, and other things I read like ‘hugging the cactus’, and in here such as the comment by @Soberbilly that is now added to my mantras; ‘cravings lead to suffering’.

I repeat some of those and my own cravings go away.

We know you will find what works for you, because we know you want to.

The cravings do stop. I’m over two years sober and barely think about it at all.

Occasionally the alcoholic voice pipes up trying to convince me but I can (mostly) just laugh it off as rediculous at this phase. I really hope it lasts, but I don’t want to become complacent

Everyone is different of course, but 45 days is pretty early on sobriety (tho definitely something to be very proud of!!!). It can take awhile for our bodies and minds to adjust to our new healthy lifestyle. My cravings were much different as time went on, more of a passing thought. Now, they no longer exist and haven’t for quite a few years. Learning how to self soothe and change our patterns and reactions is part of our journey. Rest assured, the longer you stay on your path, the easier it will become. We CAN and do change our lives.
