@Dazercat I got one of those heated cat beds you suggested (though I ended up getting a different one than you got because my cat is 18.5 and I was worried she wouldn’t be able to get in and out of the other ones) and now my cat loves it more than she loves me!
@Just_Laura OMG that picture! I love the way they’re looking at the camera. I totally laughed but at the same time they’re so adorable.
@Philrr415 She is such an adorable little girl. I hope the antibiotics work out alright. Keep us posted!
@RedDragon Your kitty is so beautiful. I just want to reach out and pet her/him.
There are so many amazing kitties in this thread! All of them are awesome! It is my favorite thread on the whole forum.
That looks like a great heated bed there. I’m so happy for her. Wish I could remember her name. She’s going to continue to love it. She has the best colors. So beautiful. I never had a cat live 18 and a half that’s amazing. We done 16 and 17 years. And quite a few 14 and 15 year olds. Alice is 14 she trades off on 2 of them and basically lives in them til bed time. Then she uses my neck for awhile. We have 4 of them for six pets and that seems to work pretty well. Dogs like them too.
Between you and @Philrr415 and @Just_Laura my night has been made.
Rest well all you cats.
Atta girl Zelda. You have a comfy winter Kitty Face. You got a great human there.
Yes Zelda! She really is such a beautiful cat. Even in her old age. I honestly thought out of my two cats she would pass away first because she’s always been prone to being stressed and overweight, but now I’m thinking she’s going to live forever! lol Well maybe not that long, but she just keeps going. I’ve been trying to make her golden years as comfortable as I can. She’s fairly healthy in her blood tests, but her front wrists are messed up and she has arthritis in her back and legs. My SO thinks I spoil her by carrying her up and down the stairs as much as I do, but I want to try to preserve her ability to get around. I’ve actually ordered two more different heated beds so that she will come downstairs (one is a heated mat that I intend to put on the couch). I’m so glad you suggested them! You have made a very happy kitty! Also 16 and 17 are still good runs! Most cats don’t live that long.
Is Zelda taking anything for her arthritis? Alice is taking 50 mg twice a day of Gabapentin. Tiny tabs. Recommended by our vet. We get them from a compounding pharmacy called Wedgewood Pharmacy and hide them in a salmon pill pocket. She use to be on 25 mg. It’s made her so much better. Very noticeably better. And we had one cat on Adequan shots once a week for arthritis and that helped too. His was more extreme.
I noticed you saw @Hailstrom meme. Get the duct tape
My son always had to go to the nearest Starbucks to get any work done because of his cats. Until he gave them to us . Ya, Beatrix and Maverick were his. His girlfriend didn’t like cats. I would have gotten rid of the girlfriend. But that’s just me.
Zelda takes 100mg of gabapentin four times a day. We’ve had to slowly increase it over the years. I just open the capsule and dump it in some wet food. The only thing is that the higher doses are giving her bad constipation so every day or two I add* a fourth of a teaspoon of miralax to the wet food. I’ve also started giving her small doses of a very pure liquid magnesium. I’m hoping it will help her health and with the constipation. In addition to that, I treat her with Frequency Specific Microcurrent as much as she tolerates–since I happen to have the equipment.
I think I’ll be a little lost when she passes in a way. I schedule my life around caring for her. It will seem strange not to have to get up early every day to give her medicine, or to help her, or ‘find’ her when she’s ‘lost’ in the middle of the hall, or to make sure all her needs are set if I go away and have three different people taking care of her lol. She is such a sweet girl and she’s more fragile than she looks.
Edit: she knew I was talking about her and was like that when I looked up from posting haha
*Edit 2: that moment when you realize, hours later, that auto correct put in “ass” instead of “add”.
It’s likely a respiratory infection, which is common amongst street cats. It is communicable and will require antibiotics, since a kitten’s immune system isn’t well developed.
Feline leukemia and FIV are also things to look for when a cat has been on the street, but fortunately it’s rare in kittens.
This wee one needs some TLC and a vet visit. Odds are the kitten will recover with some medical attention.
old lady kitties
I have one myself. shes 16 and has definitely slowed down in the past 6 months. she shouts for a tablespoon of food 8 times a day lol. thankfully I work from home so I can attend to her every wish
Your the best cat parent ever
And for anyone else reading this out there we do a regular regiment of Miralax on a daily basis for hairballs. It seems to work like a charm. It’s better if they digest the hair balls as opposed to puking them up.
Disclaimer. All my suggestions should always be run by you veterinary professional.
They are wonderful creatures but also can get in the way. Be prepared. My son had to get all his school work done at the coffee shop because the kittens were always all over his computer. Beatrix is always on me or on the printer when I’m in the office. Beatrix actually jammed up my printer so bad she broke it. She tries to pull the paper out during a print I had to get a new one. Good thing they are so cheap these day. But you just got to love them. It’s so worth it.
I know we brought her home Sunday. But I can’t get over the comparison. I know there’s more to do. But she looks happy.
Will her coat get better as she heals from her sickness?
Give her good food and vitimins. Hydration. Cat’s will self heal.
I havent noticed her drink much water. Any recommendations on how to help her with that? Same with vitamins
If she’s not eating or drinking much and lethargic, Take her to a vet. If she’s eating and drinking but just not paying attention to you, she’s a healthy woman:joy:
