Where my vegans at? (or aspiring vegans)?

I don’t think that the mass production is the work of God. What I do know is that in Genesis 4:3-7, God accepted Abel’s sacrifice, a sheep. But he rejected Cain’s sacrifice, grain, and implied that the evil had power over cain. I also know that there’s a story in the bible about how two men who worked at the temple. They often took the tastiest meat for themselves when people gave them animals to sacrifice. God killed them and their father. There was the time that God send the Israeli’s a big flock of birds to eat, during their exodus from egypt. And there’s a lot of stuff about what is chaste and eventually God giving the okay to eat all food. God wanted men to kill animals to sacrifice those to Him. So I think men eating meat is just fine in God’s eyes. Though the amounts we consume in these times is ridiculous and I wouldn’t be surprised if God agrees

I always thought that was quite a funny phrase “vegans forcing my views on people”…

In any other context when an activist was discussing a ethical topic with someone about positive change… maybe in a thread dedicated to that topic so people can come and go as they please, discuss ideas freely…the activist makes some points. The people don’t agree and we have a back and forth. Perfectly civil, just discussing. Then suddenly it’s that the activist is forcing their views…would this be the case with any other injustice? Its like as soon as a point comes up that someone is offended by or can’t respond to It’s, then it’s “forcing your views” It’s only when it comes to veganism. Very weird

I think that if we can avoid killing, then God would prefer it. We can sacrifice other things to God without killing…but there you go. Take care.

I think that this knowledge is very important. There are those who cross boundaries, just to try to force people to become vegan. There are those that feed their dogs non-vegan dog food and who never preach about veganism. I side more with the latter. However in this case, the OP doesn’t go onto other threads to “preach” about veganism and made a thread specifically for this topic, so in this case, I don’t see a problem with it.

The bible points in another direction, but the bible also says that anyone who has killed someone should be killed. And it says men stand above women. So I’m not sure what to think. Hence why my main reasoning is the environment and health, as those ARE some things that I’m sure about. But anyway, it’s about time for me to go to bed, so let’s just agree to disagree

Very polite even though we disagree. Thank you for a pleasant exchange

Please refrain from name calling. It is against the rules of the forum (and civility). Thank you!

I appreciate that my plant based lifestyle by default adds no harm to the animal kingdom. However, I’m in it for health so I can’t classify myself as “vegan”.

I retract my previous sobriety plan. Just use the same energy you have for veganism and apply it to your sobriety. Pick a program of any variety and just focus your energy there.

Absolutely. It’s not that I CAN’T eat meat, I just DON’T eat meat. It’s not that I CAN’T drink alcohol, I just DON’T drink alcohol. When you view it that way they are both easy choices to make. I just don’t view either as something I’m missing out on anymore.

This is interesting… its like a “you do you” approach. Kind of saying that morality is subjective. I wonder if this would apply in any other context where there someone was comitting an act that caused harm to another.

I have quit talking to people so many times due to how people cannot listen to what they are not ready to hear…Unfortunately, people like hearing good news about their bad habits and cognitive dissonance gets in the way of them accepting (or even considering) new information that is contradictory to that. Its often easier to make a joke or sidestep the points raised and then jump on the band wagon against the individual who is calling for…simply nonviolence.

Most people are ultimately selfish (including me when I drink and when I ate animal products). Selfish or ignorant (willfully ignorant or just through conditioning) It was when I realised that I didn’t need to consume their tortured bodies that I moved away from that…immediately. I’ll always be the outcast but that’s cool - if it means I maintain my integrity by sticking up for the animals then I’ll do it.

But im expecting less and less to actually get an intelligent response to any of my points so I’m gonna leave it here- I will continue to stay sober but without this community. Take care everyone, I hope the ones of you that choose to abuse animals for your taste pleasure or convenience stop doing it and that you all stay sober and well :green_heart:

So you’re choosing to leave a “sobriety” forum because a few people don’t see eye to eye over food choices? smh
I hope you reconsider and stay to share your experiences with sobriety. If not, wishing you the best on your future endeavors.

I had a big ole post ready to go about how morality is subjective but before I spend the extra 8 minutes typing it I’d like to know I’m not wasting my time.

Go back and read this thread and tell me if you truly believe that you were willing to listen to anyone.

Compartmentalization.

This is a sobriety forum. Perhaps using the forum for the sole purpose of working on and being supported through your sobriety journey is the objective. I’m sure you will find your tribe within this community of 10s of thousands of people who are changing constantly for the better. Just because you can’t change some people set in their ways doesn’t mean you should discard the baby with the bathwater. It’s your choice at the end of the day but veganism is a topic of discussion here, not the centerpiece of this community. That’s life. People aren’t going to agree with you. I commend your passion for animal rights but perhaps this isn’t the platform? If sobriety is a goal of yours and That’s what has led you here, compartmentalize.

Watched Game Changers, Cowspiracy, Seaspiracy and What the Heatlh over a couple of nights.

Been completely Vegan for a month since watching them. I honestly can’t belive the difference in my mental and physical health. It’s like getting sober all over again :joy::heart:

If you’d told me 3 years ago I’d be a sober, clean, non smoking, Vegan, I’d have laughed in your face. What an absolutely amazing and blessed journey this really is.

Found a great little Vegan calculator online. In a month I’ve saved

Here’s to month two!!

I’m thinking of going plant based, it’s so much easier these days. What does an average day look like for you now (if you dont mind me asking!)?

Cowspiracy was the one that pushed me 100% to go vegan. Great doc.
