can anybody give me some advice for the withdrawals? im currently starving but cant bring myself to eat the food ive just bought and i dont know why
What are you withdrawing from?
Generally eating the minimal amount of fruit helps me even if its just one bite of blackberries or a piece of apple or half an orange better than nothing. Thats when my withdrawal or comedown was making me unable to eat
lim withdrawing from alcohol
Ah Im not that familiar with alcohol withdrawal as I withdrew from other substances mostly but Im sure others on this app will help more.
Are you aware that cold turkey alcohol detox can cause potentially deadly seizures?
Depending on the severity of your drinking you might need to taper or do a medical detox with medication.
im aware yea, they can also cause dementia and strokes and stuff but i need to take the risk to get my life back
When I have withdrew I ate a little at a time and that helped. Maybe try soup. It does not take much energy to make and is easy to eat.
You can do it.
Lots of people crave sweets to replace the sugars we aren’t getting from alcohol. Eat anything you want during the first week or so. Hydrate.
It will take time for your body to get used to eating again Or be able to handle the appetite. Do what you can and take small little bites here and there. Or maybe smoothies or milk to get some kind of calories. It might take a couple days to get your eating back but being hungry is not a bad thing. It’s going to take time for your mind and body to recover. When I was withdrawing and wasn’t in treatment My go to was soup broth, milk, protein drinks and Gatorade, anything to get at least a little bit of calories. Then little by little I would increase to actual meals or snacks. Being hungry when withdrawing but not able to actually eat is not unusual it’s just a part of withdrawing and putting the alcohol down and your body adjusting
its comforting to know it isnt just me that has had this problem. i currently feel very depressed confused and the sweats are starting too. i need to face this though
All of that is normal and remember it’ll pass. I reached out to a few people to see if anybody knows about the rehabilitation/ detox Process in England and if there is programs if you can’t afford it. Hopefully you can get into somewhere because that will make things easier. Regardless take things 24 hours at a time. Out of everything I suggested definitely try to get a protein drink that has lots of vitamins. Little by little your appetite will come back and the sweating is your body just detoxing the toxins out of your system make sure to stay hydrated especially with stuff like Gatorade or anything that has sodium and electrolytes. Everything you’re going through is not unusual. But please continue to research about your options and see if you can find somewhere to go. You don’t have to do this alone is my main point
i will be going to AA meetings next week as suggested but what actually goes on there?
Drink lots of fluids to flush your body out, if you can take multivitamins and minerals, with additional B12 and B complex do it.
Alcohol robs your body of vitamins and minerals especially the B’s and most importantly B12, if you can’t take owt else try and take B12.
Don’t worry about eating at the moment as you get the alcohol out of your system you’ll start to get your appetite back, maybe 4 to 10 days depending on who you are and how much you were drinking.
Take care and keep on reading the posts on the Forum, I guarantee it will help you.

the handshake?
There is different formats at AA meetings but usually there is open discussion or speaker meeting. If it’s an open discussion there will be a chair person that will bring up a topic and people will share about some thing they can relate or it could be something random if they’re struggling. Usually they will ask in the beginning of the meeting if they’re struggling to stay sober and if it was me I would raise my hand and tell them exactly what you’re going through. You are going to find so much support and you can connect with other people and when people share you will be able to relate to their story I 100% guarantee. It doesn’t matter the persons background or where they’re from but the main thing is that the drinking doesn’t work anymore and we have a common solution. The main point of AA is working with another alcoholic and working together and not doing it on your own. The only requirement for alcoholics anonymous is a desire to stop drinking everything else is just suggestions like getting a sponsor and working the steps or taking commitments. But these suggestions are what help you have long-term sobriety. The book that they go off of is called the big book of Alcoholics Anonymous. You can find this online for free on a PDF I’m pretty sure or also audio on YouTube. It’s pretty amazing how this program was started in the 1930s by 2 struggling alcoholics that realize that working together is how you stay sober. While you get your appetite back and adjust to everything look up this book online and also listen to some online meetings on YouTube. Then when you feel up to it go to your first meeting even if you don’t feel like it.
Sorry, @Moll . I was attempting a joke.
He’s taking the piss.

There is a time And a place for jokes. I know you probably mean well but we have somebody new to this community that is reaching out probably for the first time and needs help. So let’s help. It can be a scary and emotional place when you’re withdrawing and trying to quit and reaching out for help is not easy. So let’s be considerate in that regard. Thank you
Carbonated water of ginger ale can help with removing acetaldehyde from your body. You will need Thiamine(B1) and other multivitamins. Also I used chewable magnesium(lots of it) to help with sleep and calming the nerves. Sleep will be very frustrating for awhile(sweating, itching, restless). I used antihistamines to help with sleep but they can mess with some people.
When you feel like you are craving a drink, do some breathing exercise(like box breathing). You are doing well Moll, I can sense it!
I did gatorade followed by Boost or Ensure (protein shakes), so i got that “savory to sweet” kind of feeling, like dinner then dessert. Get flavors that you enjoy. Put them in a fancy glass with a straw (idk what it is about the straws but they tend to help us drink more). Little bit at a time. Sometimes sleep for dinner, at least for me as I dealt with overwhelming nausea.
You can and you will do this. Welcome.
I would eat whatever you can man.
It will get easier. Praying for you.
