Welcome Jim. How are you planning your first few days out? Any support? Remember that the opposite of addiction is connection. Stay connected here with us, drink lots of water, get some basic exercise, read/post. You got this. ODAAT

Welcome Jim.
Congratulations on your sober date today Jim. April 21st! :flexed_biceps: Protect it at all cost.

Maybe you’re not ready for AA.
Someone wrote in a while back that she kept relapsing in AA. She quit going and now she is sober. I’m sure she did something else for her recovery. Can’t remember that part. But not AA. There are so many options out there.

I got sober using my knowledge of addiction through my kids, and family weeks at rehabs, this app and my knowledge of the 12 steps. At least the first 3. That’s all I used from AA. That and Gratitude. Tons of gratitude. We have a wonderful gratitude thread on here where I can read and write gratitude. I retrained my brain doing gratitude work daily for 3 years. Powerful tool.

After 3 years I needed more for my sobriety and then I started going to AA meetings.

There’s lots of ways to get sober. Keep an open mind. Read around and learn from the sober winners. Take what you like and leave the rest.

Here’s a good thread if you’re interested.

Hope to see you around.

Drinking was fun. Then it was fun with problems. Then it was just problems.

Hey dazercat, thanks for the encouragement that there are many roads to sobriety. I’ve tried AA four or five times over the years always starts out great the first two or three weeks and then just fizzles out for me. Here I am trying something different, trying to find new groups.
