2 days in, help needed already

Hi all, i drank every day for many years and decide to stop Sunday. Its Tuesday now, i dont have any withdrawal symptoms yet. However its very strange not having been in the pub at 11am. I feel the urge to make an excuse to go out but think i will be tempted to go in the pub. I can’t be worrying about this every day any tips?

Hey, I’m going through this too and I’m on my second day. My thoughts keep circling around alcohol, and now that I know it’s forever, it’s making me nervous too. I’m trying to stay home as much as possible, order food if I can, and just get through today. What happens tomorrow is tomorrows problem. One day at a time.

You’ve got this! Don’t let yourself get pulled back into the grip of this substance. There’s a better life waiting for you on the other side. Remind yourself why you decided to quit! I believe in you. Let’s stay sober together today and write about Day 3 tomorrow morning. :pray:t3:

The important thing is you recognized the thought of going out is basically the gateway to the excuse. I know many that stay home outside of necessities. Also I highly recommend one of the top reads here

Congratulations to both of you! First of all, yes, it is hard! And for that reason, you should be proud of yourself! Remember, these are just thoughts. And I promise you you are gonna feel better and better even if the next couple of days are difficult. You’ve gotta get over that hump! One thing that helped me was eating something. And I mean anything. Just go in the cupboard and find some crackers and eat those. For some reason, as soon as food hits our stomach, something chemically changes and that biological desire seems to go away, but most of all pat yourself on the back. If this was easy, there wouldn’t be people all over the world dying daily. Good job! Bob.

Staying at home and isolating is not going to get anyone sober. You can only hide for so long. It is suggested you find a program of recovery and work that program every single day. Sobriety requires daily work.

*if you are about to respond with all the reasons you can’t do something (rehab, meetings, therapy, etc) I’d ask you to stop typing and consider why your willingness isn’t there. Very rarely is actually a situation in which someone can’t do something. Instead it’s often that a person won’t do something. Through my own experience I know that things I wouldn’t do were the things that eventually got me sober.

Hi friend…the reality is it is really hard especially at first…i remember gritting my teeth daily to get to bed each night and hit that pillow sober…you can do it tho and it is 100% worth it…my advice is to take it one day at a time…all that matters for today is hitting that pillow tonight sober and then repeat tomorrow…i personally didnt do meetings but ive read so many people on here that find them an absolute must…whatever you do you must work on your recovery daily …what brought you to your addiction…all your whys but dont try to do if alone…use us here to keep talking to and for support whenever you need it and before you reach for a drink…thats what i did anyway

Welcome to Talking Sober :sunflower:
Doing life sober means to learn to live your life. Live, not blurr, escape, avoid. This is done step by step one day at a time. You did 2 days. Great. The first weeks are difficult. Your body detoxes, your brain is in turmoil, everything is setup and no, there’s no shortcut. The good thing is: It’s only today. You stay focused on yourself and your sobriety today. Go for a walk, read a book, visit a museum, cook a 4 course meal, refresh your craft skills, watch birds, meditate, hit 1 or 3 meetings, dive into sobriety literature, podcasts, documentations, films, whatever. Put your head sober on the pillow tonight.
Great thread for ressources for recovery

“2 days in, help needed already”

One of the main things about sobriety and recovery is that we can’t do it alone. So yes, help is needed. All the time. The opposite of addiction is connection. True connection, wherever and whenever we can find it. Congrats on making it through two days, now let’s do three. Together.

Absolutely @Mno - I was going to say 81 days in, help needed!

I honestly need help every day. Some of that help comes from books, some from here, some from conversations with other people in recovery and mostly from meetings. I don’t miss those. Ever, no matter what. Even with some god-awful lurgy a few weeks back. I had someone drive me and I sat waaaaaaayyyy at the back so I didn’t infect anyone. I have 2 in person meetings and a sponsor meeting every week that I don’t miss for anything or anyone. The rest of the week are online meetings and truthfully I hardly ever miss those either. I find all the help I need in the rooms of AA.

Welcome and I want to say you are not alone in this struggle. I’m 33 days and have needed lots of help every step of the way. This community of people here have helped me almost everyday and I’m willing to bet they will continue do so every time I reach out here going forward . So stick around , read, chat in some threads and find a meeting if that’s what you want. But reach out for help and continue to do so because that’s how you’ll continue to make it to bed every night sober .
