2019 NFL Season (American Football)

Hey all,
Just a place for anyone who wants to chat NFL, with the preseason starting today.
To link in sobriety, I know that for many of us watching sports (esp. football) was a big drinking activity, and adjusting to watching/attending sporting events without alcohol can be challenging – but absolutely possible. Here we can enjoy talking football with fellow sober people. Feel free to share tips and personal experiences regarding the enjoyment of sports without alcohol or drugs. You never know, you could help someone!

So – who’s your team, and who is taking home the Lombardi his year? What team will be a surprise, and who will not live up to the hype? Let’s talk football!

That said – Go Raiders! (PSA: watch ‘Hard Knocks’ if you can. No better person to have mic’d up than Jon Gruden).

I haven’t had a team since Peyton Manning retired. But even then it was all Peyton…not the team. I’m still looking. It needs to be something emotional to get me behind a team, not just a geographical connection.

Hubby has cheered for Raiders since he was a kid. He’s been through big highs and lowest lows. I admire his dedication. :joy:

Great post! I had season tickets to the AZ Cardinals for 15 years. In that time I was escorted out of 2 games. Both alcohol fueled. Go figure! I’ve been to 2 games since being sober and watching the drunk fans is now a interesting part of the game. GO CARDINALS!!!

Props to your husband! We’ve had a lot of lows haha. I have the Raiders logo tattooed on my arm, they’ll be with me forever.
You could be a Raiders fan too! Your new team! :joy:

Wow, that’s awesome! I live in Pats country, no way to get season tickets…theres a waiting list, and the cost is several thousand dollars. I’ve actually never seen a football game at Gillette. Last time the Raiders came to town (2014), the worst seats cost ~$175 plus fees, and $40 to park. Hell no. I watched at home. They’ve got some balls charging for parking on top of those crazy ticket prices.

Your team is one I’m interested to watch this year Jim. Was jettisoning Rosen in favor of Murray the right choice? What will old man Fitz be like this year? Interesting storylines to watch.

It’s either going to be awesome for you guys this season or a royal dumpster fire with OBJ leading the way with a barrel of gasoline trying to toss Baker in the flames!

Apparently my team is deciding to be like Derek’s team and watch it’s prize running back “Elliot” do wind sprints in Cabo when we have potential to actually be a contender. @Englishd, looking back. Pay Le’Veon or happy to see him go and miss the playoffs by 1 game?

I’m just sat here waiting for Antonio Brown’s feet to heal…seriously, getting severe frostbite on your feet from not wearing the right footwear during cryotherapy?

Thats a new one.

You might actually have something to cheer for this year!

Or, things could go drastically wrong. I think itt’ll be the former. I think the players have bought into it, and I buy into Baker Mayfield as a leader and solid QB. I’m hoping the Browns live up to the hype!

Calgary Argonauts??:rofl: I feel like there is a meaning behind that.

Go Eagles. Must say we’ve had a good run for a couple of years, even though Wentz has been injured for a lot of it. It will be interesting to see where we are without our Nick Foles security blanket. Gotta keep Wentz upright! The hopes of the city are sky-high for this team, but I’m trying to just be cautiously optimistic. Great thread! I used to drink heavily during each and every game. I actually quit drinking during half-time of last year’s opening game. Looking forward to another sober season!

Holy S**t! Might have been the best sales pitch lol. I think I’m a browns fan now :joy:. I want to be one with the universe :raised_hands:t2:

It’s nice to be able to remember the score at the end of the game! I also find I am more aware of the nuances and strategy throughout the game. I am one of those people who just has a mind for stats as well, just obe of those things I remember without trying. Games have been thoroughly more enjoyable sober.

Haha the meaning behind it sadly is to be a sarcastic ass with way to much knowledge of sports :man_shrugging:t3:. It was also at the time the only CFL team name I could completely remember. In the moment I also didn’t have the complete courage to announce my allegiance to being a Cowboys fan that grew up in Upstate NY in the land of loyal Bills fans haha…

Well, just to let you know…it’s the Calgary Stampeders and the Toronto Argonauts. LOL Now you have more CFL knowledge you can share a dinner parties.

See damn it I can’t even be sarcastically cute at 5am in California. Haha thank you for the correct names.
