I got affordable aluminum poles like this on Amazon for backpacking. They’re pretty great actually!
And if I lose or break one, not the end of the world either.

Went to a hike with friends yesterday and had a hotdog roast on the frozen lake. Great day!

Went out for a boxing day walk up on’t tops (as they call the moors round here).
Got caught in some pretty intense hail showers which ranged from ‘bracing’ to ‘this is really horrible’ 
Although not for the whole hour we were out so that’s something!
