So, i’ve hit 4 days. It honestly hasn’t been a struggle so far, i’m trying to get into new routines, the one thing i am really finding difficult is sleep. Previous attempts to give up have been thwarted by a lack of sleep affecting work, mood, life.
I’m determined that i am a changed person and will continue forward…
Hi and welcome,
First of all great job on 4 days, that’s fantastic.
Keep going and your sleep will improve in time. I used to have awful sleep but it is definitely the very best thing about not drinking.
Keep checking in here too, it helps massively
Well done on 4 days. I always think the first 4 days of anything new are the absolute hardest. Get through them you are on a good run and you have done it, you hit day 4! Keep it up so you dont have to have them first 4 days again.
Welcome to the forum! Struggling with sleep is definitly a common theme when newly being clean and sober. I struggling with it too (and still do due to anxiety). But i do find having a night time routine helps to sort of unwind and prepare my body for sleep. Drinking sleepy time tea, having a nice warm shower/bath, no electronics 30min or so before bed, soothing music… all those things have helped me in the past. Sleep is sooo important for overall health.
My advice, get hooked in with a program (I do AA and it’s great) as the most successful and long term outcomes happen when we don’t try and do this alone. The addict voice tells us we can do it alone, not to join recovery groups, that God is stupid, that we can control our use…blah, blah, blah. It’s all lies.
As for the sleep, I bought a giant bottle of 10mg melation tablets from Wal-Mart and their knock off version of Unisom. Worked for me.
Welcome to the community and great work on your 4 days! Keep at it friend. The sleep does get better with sobriety. Great to hear that you haven’t had to struggle thus far. Stay vigilant as the addict mind can be tricky. Hope to see you around
Welcome to Talking Sober @Redroger My advice would be to find people who have made some progress getting sober from your addiction, and learn from them. There’s people here on Talking Sober and you can find people in recovery groups like those listed here: Resources for our recovery
