You might have noticed that @SoberWalker has stepped down as moderator. She’s still hanging around the community, but she prefers to be just a regular member. Thank you again for all your hard work.
We’re opening up one slot to join our moderation team. We’re limiting it to just one this time.
What moderators do:
They evaluate flagged posts. They agree or disagree that a post is inappropriate when flagged.
They respond to direct messages from members who need assistance
They tidy up and organize the forum when they see it is needed
They provide advice and guidance to new members
Feel free to ask if you have any questions about moderation here on Talking Sober.
As in the past, we are doing this on a volunteer basis. Members need to volunteer themselves, and while it’s nice to see that other members recommend or encourage each other to be mods, those won’t be considered unless the person does it themself.
If you feel that this is something that would be good for you and your recovery and that you can make a meaningful difference here, leave a post below or message any of the @moderators and you’ll be considered for the position. I’ll leave the applications open for a week.
I’ll throw my hat in the ring. I don’t post as much but I do read every day. I try to check out every new post. Been around the forum almost 7 years. I don’t think I’ve been flagged recently either lol
I nominate Paul @Dolse71. He’s got the right attitude, including humility, personal accountability, and experience (both on Talking Sober and in terms of time sober). He’s on TS regularly, and engages substantively and constructively with newcomers and people looking for advice (the majority of his posts are focused, constructive posts to people looking for guidance - he meets them where they are, without judgment, and extends a welcoming, sober hand). He’d be a brilliant mod. (He also lives in Europe.)
I think you’d be a good moderator because you have a combination of compassion and respect, clear personal boundaries, and you speak up - without pussyfooting around, you make things clear without diminishing anyone - when you spot nonsense. (Obviously we all know there is never any nonsense behaviour on Talking Sober, but nevertheless, you have this unique quality to your interactions.)
Thank you for everyone’s patience. I was off sick for a few days, so this was open a bit longer than I had originally planned.
After some discussion between moderators, and some PMs back and forth, we have decided to add @acromouse as the new moderator. Please be kind and give her some time to acclimate!
Thank you to everyone who put up their hands or helped with the process.
