A question re: your quit date

Just wondering, the day you have your last DOC
is that your actual quit date or is it counted as the next day when you start clean / fresh?

Not sure if that makes sense.

Last drink on Saturday, I set my date to the Sunday after this.

I don’t know the rules.
Or if there are any rules. I think everyone is different. I started my counter at midnight the beginning of the first day I never drank again.

I started the next day after drinking when I woke up.

Same as Eric. Had my last drink around 10pm and set the counter for 1 minute past midnight because I was determined to spend those next 24 hours, a complete full day, sober.
And it made sense for me to line up the time to correspond with a new day for every day I gained. If that makes sense lol. Not OCD at all I swear :sweat_smile:

It doesn’t matter. Your start date is your choice.

What matters is that your honest with yourself

I didn’t set mine till about 3 or 4 days after I’d last used. I was asleep for about 3 days and when I came to, I’d woken up realising the day had come to stop again. So I started my counter when I had nothing in my system :upside_down_face:

I started the time I reached 0 BAC while in a detox center.

Always been told your start date is when you are at 0.0 if your working the AA program. The treatment center I went to have additional privileges for the time of sobriety. And they counted your anti seizure and benzodiazepines as not being sober and wouldn’t start your sobriety until the day after your last day of detox. I was only there for 30 days so didn’t get any privileges anyway because treatments not cheap! But my sponsor has said it’s up to the individual and how strong they want their program to be.

I started mine when i quit. It was only my 2nd beer that day, at 4:20 a.m. on my way to work. The decision was made to fight like hell and the clock was on. It wouldn’t matter much now if I had 1 less day though.

My last drink was on 12/19. I woke up the next day and knew I needed to quit. I poured out all the alcohol in my apartment and started the clock. My sober date is 12/20

I agree with the other comments on here. I think it’s up to you but it should probably be the moment you 100% decide to quit for good. Maybe that’s while you’re having your last drink, midnight on a new day, or 3 days later. There’s no wrong time to start

Thanks, I love that.

Never mind my need for perfectionism and OCD. Oh the joys of being a Virgo :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I always want to do things “properly” but oi vey this addict mind of mine has a “mind of it’s own” but I’m not giving up!

I set mine as midnight after the last drink. No real reason other than I want some time after the drink was taken but couldn’t know for sure when it would fully clear.

I decided to start mine when I finally made the decision to quit drinking, I was Debating on going to detox, and decided I had no choice It was time to quit,

I poured out the last of the booze I had and left for detox. Timer started then.

It’s a personal thing no set standard, people will say this or that, fact js just keep the count going that’s all that matters

Mine started the second no more booze entered my body, I was willing to ask for help and do shit differently than I had been.

I remember it very clearly, every time I tried to take a sip I’d heave it right back up. I’m thinking something was wrong with me…?

This was me. I know the day and time I said, “No more!” God willing, I haven’t drank since and don’t plan on it.

I don’t know the actual date. I was very sick from an infection and don’t recall when I actually last used, as I had been trying to stop for a while, and had reached a point where I didn’t use daily, or even weekly sometimes. I set my sober clock at the day I entered hospital, as I know for certain I have not used anything, not even a cigarette, since then.

I went to detox for 9 days and came home and took a swig of wine out of the magnum my dad had in his fridge. I didn’t make that day my official sober date until about a year later.
