The unexpected joy of being sober and We are the luckiest
yeah not sure I have them emotions towards him but I get your point I prefer the power of now but his whole concept has helped me in certain situations.
edit, aphrodisiac.
Yes, I read almost every day. Mostly histories, but I do enjoy a good thriller now and again.
Currently re-reading George Orwell’s Nineteen Eighty-Four.
I read mostly to escape the madness.
Carl Hiaasen and his outrageous funny as hell Florida tales.
I hate golf and I live in a golfing community so I’m reading
The Downhill Lie: A Hacker’s Return to a Ruinous Sport.
Can’t wait for his new book coming out in August. Something to do with Mar A Lago
Hey Siand,
Wow! A friend just sent me a copy of Braiding Sweetgrass! I haven’t started it, but it looks amazing. How are you enjoying it?
Have you read “Maps and Dreams” by Hugh Brody?
I don’t consider myself a reader I have never red a book in my. Life until recently found it great for the head. I found a second hand shop online all books are €2 of I got a lot of them
Just finished American sniper and I think iam going to start on rebel its about William wallice in Scotland sounds great
I’m reading Doctor Sleep by Steven King always good to open up a book when I’m not able to get relaxed at the end of the day and just get lost in the moment just anything to not focus so much on myself and what I cant control.
I’m not very far in but what I have read so far I have loved. Totally captivating.
I haven’t heard of that, will definitely look it up! Although I have a few other books to get to, Losing Eden, Sitopia and Barn 8.
Too many suggestions, I’m on overload.
Nice! Thats the type of book i like to read, if i have time
Thank you!
I loved Doctor Sleep (movie is also good)…mostly because I love Stephen King (I am from Maine, like him!) and I love The Shining. Enjoy!!!
Such a great thread!
I tend to have a few books on the go at once (just more evidence that I cannot stop at one! ) Currently reading:
Creative Non-Fiction: There is a Season. It’s a memoir, about a man turning to his passion for gardening when he starts his recovery/sobriety and processing his life until then. The author was a prominent Canadian poet, and his sentences are absolutely stunning to me…
Non-Fiction: Braiding Sweetgrass. I just started it - so far all things good!
Fiction: Unsheltered by Barbara Kingsolver. Her stuff never seems to fail me, so I added this to the night table pile.
@Pman @Apes2020 @Dolse71 looks like some good selections for personal growth books. I am turning back to Jon Kabat-Zinn - I liked “Wherever you go - There you are” and think it would do me well to re-read right about now!
And last (trigger alert!) - if my mind is too tired, I gaze at the photos in the following two books and plot how to turn my dream of a small chunk o’ land into reality…
Great book! First read it when I was getting my Bachelor’s degree way back when it first came out…was my intro to mindfulness!! And Full Catastrophe Living, actually I think that was his first book I read.
Have you read “One Man’s Wilderness”? It’s the diaries of Dick Proenneke who moved to a remote area of Alaska only accessible by float-plane. He built his cabin and lived there for 30 years, year round. That’s off-grid.
I believe there is a movie or documentary as well?
This looks like a beautiful book indeed. Will add to my wish list!
My favourite audiobook narrator is Will Wheaton. He never disappoints.
Gah. I hated that book. Loved the basic story. Beginning and end we’re great. But all the stuff in the middle felt like reading a school textbook. It completely ruined all the good parts for me.
But I love dystopian novels.
My favourite by far is John Wyndham’s The Chrysalids.
There is, and the footage was shot my Dick on 8mm.
