Update…just finished this one and idk, I liked the afterword the best actually. It felt like the more authentic voice. The history in the book felt more like a thesis, than a memoir. There were definitely some aha, I totally feel that passages for me, and that afterword really shined…but not my favorite in the genre.

For a change I read something in German. My other half picked up a few books in Germany on a business trip for me to enjoy
This one was just charming, maybe a touch too cheesy for me, but it felt like being on holiday on the German coast.

Currently reading ‘All the colours of the dark’ by Chris Whitaker. It’s another cracker. His other novel ‘We begin at the end’ blew me away completely in it’s breadth and scope and pathos. This is promising to be as good if not better. Set in the Midwest USA the story unfolds across States and years and is gut wrenching.

So, this is a weird choice, even for me. I do like YA fiction, especially thrillers and crime. But this is a YA novel about teenage friendships and maybe a tiny bit of romance.

It is set in a Muslim community in Vermont. I don’t know a lot about that culture, so I got really intrigued when they were talking about all those South Asian sweets. The cat :cat2: in the story is even named after one of those sweets: Laddoo.

For research purposes I ordered myself a big selection box of the sweets… a girl needs to know!

Owwww those sweets looks delicious. I wouldn’t dare to buy something like that because I would ate them all. Can’t do just a few.
Enjoy!

Wow, this one had me hooked…tho I didn’t like some of the characters or their decisions. I loved the writing and honesty of parenting, life, marriage.

Leaving by Roxanna Robinson

I finally finished The Kingdom by Jo Nesbo. More a study of families and human nature than a crime tale, though there is indeed crime in it. Absolutely stunning observations on human cruelty, mimetic desire, familial loyalty and manipulation. So many sentences I wanted to lift and keep.

Jo Nesbo is a champ in my eyes and can do very little wrong.

I’m on to Deadly Animals by Marie Tierney now and so far so good… Very unusual and dark.
