This morning I realised that its the one year anniversary of this baby birdies thread!!
In celebration , this morning when one of the floofs arrived at a naughty 6am , I decided to treat him with special gourmet crackers for breakfast he absolutely loved them…
He was so so happy. When he is happy and playful he runs across the window and flops his feet down playfully and does this little wobble dance. Its so adorable
Hi April, l just posted on a new topic ‘Back to reality after the care free days’ about a beautiful pet Cockatoo l met on a walk yesterday. He reminded me of your Mr Floof and friends. The guy who owned him said he was about 39 yrs old and that he could live for another 50!! They are so entertaining and cute, aren’t they? Thank you for your thread.
You are quite the Bird Lady aren’t you?! Your window pane (AKA Grazing Table)certainly gets a good work out-you must have to clean it very regularly! So worth the work they give you though! I’m so envious of the wonderful relationship you have with your feather babies-it’s very special and quite rare. They really trust you to come so close. It proves that birds are very intelligent, and that they can remember, especially where they encounter human kindness.
P.S. l have heard that Magpies as well as Cockies like Sunflower seeds in moderation.Have you tried feeding the Maggies in your yard.
Out of curiosity, are you a Melburnian? Judging by the type of bird life and landscape?
Thx again for sharing and brightening all our days
They indeed do give me a daily work out with cleaning up after there daily meals lol
Its not too bad. They just leave almond residue and almonds are milky so i immediately wash the window over with a few big jugs of water as soon as they have left.
I’m convinced my neighbors think I’m crazy lol. They see waterfalls of water pouring off my window multiple times a day
I’m yet to feed the magpie. He only turned up for the first time a few days ago. I might wait because the myna birds have four babies down there at the moment so they are all super territorial and protective of them, so when other unknown birds come around they all go crazy squawking trying to send out warnings.
Ive literally have a david Attenborough doco right out side my window all day lol its quite fascinating… I laugh when I think about the fact that a year ago , I’d never noticed a bird in my life… Now I’m a bird whisper lol !
Happy One Year Baby Birdie thread! You and the birds are both adorable and amazing!! You ARE the Bird Whisperer! I’ve learned so much about bird behavior from you! Wonderful, sweet, loving, inquisitive personalities.
They live till 89 … wow!!
Thank you @apes2020 love looking at your birds.
Thank you April,it’s been so helpful in keeping me sober over the festive season (9 days now) …and so entertaining as well. It’s a bit like AA.
When you first join you think it’s going to be a somber place where a bunch of people gather to talk incessantly and seriously all the time about their terrible drinking careers.
Once you’re there for a bit, you realise it’s a group of warm, welcoming like-minded people, who make fun of themselves and their antics whilst in active addiction, and just love sharing their sobriety and new love of life with others!
April, l was just amusing myself by reading some more of your Birdie thread, and l got to ‘Day of Earthquake’ That was a very unnerving day wasn’t it? Were you in your apartment at the time? I was on the ground floor of a multi storey car park! Yikes!!
You were wondering if Mr Floof and friends noticed anything? I would definitely say yes. Animals have a sixth sense about these things!
I wonder if you saw the short video of Melbourne’s family of Peregrine Falcons on the day of the quake? If not,Google it to see their interesting response.
That morning was indeed the scariest experience ive ever had.
I was at home. On my bed, reading. I thought the building was going to crash down on me. I seen the entire building move. Scary s%&t!!!
The cockatoos didnt turn up I think for the next day I think as far as I can remember. I’m certain that they felt it too.
I was very concerned going to sleep that night. I thought another one would hit and the building would actually collapse and if I was asleep I would get stuck in the building. It was very traumatising. I even packed a “go” bag with all my important items. And I left it at my front door. Just in case it happened again and I had to run out the door.
I could image that being in a car park when it happened would also have been so terrifying!!!
I havnt seen the falcon video? I didnt even know we had falcons in Victoria!?!
