“Alcohol is not your friend, it is your enemy. What is it going to take for you to realize that?” - My Mom
“ you’ve got it all wrong…stop thinking that this life or this day or this situation is happening TO you. These things are happening FOR you…”
" you need to take care of your drinking before it takes care of you"
Heard at an AA meeting. Really stuck with me.
The most important days of your life. There is two.
The day you were born, and the day you learn the reason why
“Pursue what is meaningful, not what is expedient”
“Take a break - you need it”
“Stop! Just stop! Go to bed!”. @Dejavu - that was you dude!
“Assume the person you’re speaking with knows something you don’t”
“Whether you’re the lion or the gazelle, when you wake in the morning, you’d better be running”
“Say what you mean, mean what you say, armour up and prepare for war”
“When it’s brown it’s cooked, when it’s black its fucked”
“Mother nature is the artist, you’re just the chef”
“We’ve all got the same 12 notes; what you do inbetween is what defines how you make them sound”
Oh yeah… And “Stop being an arsehole”.
“Don’t just do something, stand there!”
Which is a play on “don’t just stand there, do something!”
Why I love it is because all too often we REACT to a situation, instead of RESPONDING to it. Instead of doing something right off the bat, stand there and assess the situation.
Lets see…might go like this for me right now…bro wuddup? Oh not much just laying in bed playing on my phone. Dude u lazy-ass fuk u need to get a life!
Bye for now…
My dad always told me “if you are the smartest person in the room, then you are in the wrong room”.
I didn’t realize until later in life that he was telling me that my friends were dumb asses.
Recovery advice:
“Don’t drink. No matter what”
“I’m glad you’re here”
“You are not unique. Your problems aren’t unique”
“Use your head, it’s the little things that count” From my grandpa when I was young.
Easy dont lift the first drink
If you don’t change direction, you will end up where you are heading.
This has really struck a chord with me. Thank you.
Take care of yourself first, then you can care for others.
Easy to say, hard to put into practice though
My father always told me that,
“I can’t drink at all, not even 1 beer or shot.”
He’s been hammering that into me for a long time. It finally stuck this time around 1Y 4M 3D.
“See sobriety as a privilege, not an obstacle”.
Many times we resist sobriety because we cannot picture living our lives without our D. O. C. But how often, when under the influence do you wish to be free? Well this is it. Sobriety is that you you have been longing for. It’s a privilege to be you, the real you with all your imperfections. It’s a privilege to have full control over your mental faculties. It may be hard before it starts feeling like a privilege but just know, every single minute you are sober that’s also the hardest, most rewarding self love you can give yourself.
If one is not enough, have none!
Show me your friends, I’ll show you your future
Accept things for what they are, not what you want them to be
If the grass is greener elsewhere, maybe you should be watering your own.
To be old and wise, you must first be young and stupid
Red flags dont show when you look through a rose colored lens
Nothing worth having is easy to get,
I didn’t say it would be easy, I just said it be worth it~ me on dealing with me on an interpersonal level
For recovery you have to build a life you don’t want to lose.
Nothing in life is free, but sometimes the price is worth it
