Bird watching

So lucky to live near those beauties. Why do your owls seem to hang around and just chill out? The ones here are literally Mi5 status…

This is my phone camera so it’s poop. But at the feeder is my lovely goldfinches. Plus the usual pigeons of course…

I’ve only seen them up close like that 3 times, 2 of which resulted in those photos! Other time it was too dark.
In the case of the bigger Great Horned Owl at least, that fella knows he could beat me up so I figure that’s part of why they were so calm lol.

But it is different here. Back in Boston, you would hear them, but NEVER see them.

Roadrunners are magical to see.

There are buzzards and hawks here that have been filmed attacking runners and cyclists that they don’t want near them/their nests. They would definitely beat you up T, despite them big muscles…

Trust me I was a nervous man being so close to that one perched on the sign. Was maybe 8-10ft away from it, didn’t want to get too close or scare it off. It was BIG. Then when it did fly off, it was amazing how silent its movement was. You’d never see one coming if it snuck up on you.

Goldfinch, called putter in Dutch, my favourite local small bird. Famous little painting too from 1654. I love it even when it’s sad - the were kept on a chain like that. Love to see and hear them outside doing their stuff.

And some more city birbs.

My favourite garden bird as well. They are lovely. A group of them is called ‘A Charm of Goldfinches’ which is just gorgeous. I have a soft spot for the Goldcrest and Firecrest as well around Christmas time (they seem to love holly bushes and firs).

I love that picture.

The wren is another favourite of mine, for a big part because of it’s name in Dutch, which is winterkoninkje, meaning little king of winter.

My brother has a pet cockatoo (named Bundy), and he had some more visitors yesterday. Often in the afternoons wild cockatoos come to the backyard to greet Bundy. He loves it, however, he doesn’t like to engage with them much as he thinks he’s human, haha
Hes very talkative, speaks to us all the time, especially when he wants something, lol. Here’s some pics.

How cool is that to have visitors. Do they talk too? I am thinking not if they are wild.

It’s so cool, sometimes there are up to 10 cockatoos in the backyard, lol. The wild ones just squawk, which is loud and annoying. But Bundy just tells them “hello” and “who’s a pretty boy?”
With us he speaks a lot more; he was my grandparents bird originally and they taught him to say lots; now they’ve passed and my brothers loves and cares for him (like a son, haha). Bundy has been in our family for 35 years :yellow_heart: we’re glad he chooses not to fly off with his friends  I love going to visit him.

Here’s a photo of me and Bundy. He loves to dance and show off.

And here’s a photo of him in his favourite tree

Bundy is a dream boat! What a cool kid.

I had two beautiful green budgies as a kid and I spent every second I had trying to make them talk. They never got there.
