Thank you for reply and understanding. Roommate wanted a burial but I believe especially after moving here in the circle of life. So we placed him at the creek’s edge. I’m sure bobcat, fox or even turkey vultures appreciated the easy prey.
Didn’t want to say it because it could be upsetting to some, but same here. That’s life. Figured something would grab it, and sure enough the remains were gone in a day or two. Hawk or neighborhood feral cat, probably.
Always nice to see birds while I’m sitting at my desk. Like these Jays. They plant trees on my balcony as well by burying acorns and the like.
Beautiful birds but what an awful noise they make.
Top five British garden bird for me. My grandad taught me all the names of birds when I was very very small, like maybe two years old! I use to always love the Jay. I still stop to admire them in the cemetery, such absolutely stunning specimens.
Sorry for the poor quality but I had to keep my distance.

There had been two, and I already spooked one. One arrived first and was calling out to the other, which I heard coming closer and closer. Then they began feasting. It’s like they were friends!

And their entry from my “Nature of Arizona” illustrated field guide, a fantastic antique mall pickup from my first few months living here. Really useful for ID’ing stuff I see in my yard over the years.
Anyone familiar with this? I’d heard about it during my adult outdoor forest school type program. I bought two for gifting … one for my son’s teacher, and I might keep the other ![]()
Great Egret, has become rather common here in the last ten years or so, and now getting less shy too.
How cool not camera shy at all.
Oh my goodness! I have found my people haha.
Love seeing all these photos, especially from around the world (I’m in Ireland). As I’m new I can’t post photos yet but will as soon as I can.
I was just watching a flock of goldfinch on a tree outside, it’s one of those beautiful winter days here - sun shining but icy cold - and they were gleaming in the sunshine.
I’ll tell you all a story here whilst I can’t post photos: the kingfisher is my white whale as a bird photographer. I’ve spent HOURS with my camera at kingfisher sites and not seen a single blue flash. And the two times I have seen a kingfisher, something was wrong with my camera! Last time I was on a bird watching weekend and the place I stayed was right on a lake and next door to a huge bird reserve. Well, I arrived and headed straight to the reserve, got my camera out, ready to take a photo and….I’d forget my memory card! No photos? Well, that’s okay, I’ll still enjoy my weekend.
I went back to my accommodation and sat watching the lake. And, of course, a kingfisher comes and sits about 15 metres from me, posing like you wouldn’t believe. He sat there the entire weekend, teasing me lol.
Just not meant to be! One day though…lol ![]()
Hahaha. I’m an avid kingfisher spotter. My favourite bird by miles, love them. Welcome ![]()
Welcome! I love birds, and I love taking pictures. I just don’t have the patience to wait for 'm to show up. So I take pictures of other things mostly. Don’t have the camera for it as well. Would love to take a pic of a kingfisher though, with the warmer winters we have many more here now (I’m in Amsterdam).
I love the little bird houses!
