Have you considered learning a trade? Skilled worked are in high demand and generally you can find paid apprenticeships.

A lot if people say women having kids after 40 is waiting too long, but statistics say many families are waiting to have children later in life when they are more financially stable. Your friend put too much emphasis on career. At 31 I had no idea where I was headed job wise. I was in the Army but wasn’t sure I wanted to stay. I eventually stayed, and am now doing odd jobs here. Even when you’re 40 there’s still more than enough time to find something you like, put in 20 years and still have plenty of life left to enjoy things.
