I agree with @Wildrose, and I was thinking maybe talking to your parents (and close friends) privately and letting them know that you’re on a path to being healthy and that includes not drinking… I find I have to be honest and then let the chips fall were they may~!

We do learn the British English in school here and we have a few British shows on tv. (I absolutely love Hyacinth she’s wild, British humor might not be suitable for everyone)
But to be honest most tv shows and movies here are American, and I’ve spent a lot if time in US with friends and family, so I probably have more of an American accent in daily speech (Unfortunately not a Southern one) but I can switch between both British English or as we say School English and the American accent.
