Checking in daily to maintain focus #17

In all honesty… all those last things you said (teaching them to be a good person, being there for them, and loving them unconditionally) is ALL a child REALLY needs. You would be a wonderful dad! I have seen so many people be wonderful parents in a wheelchair! This woman I know gave birth and raised a little boy all in a wheel chair and she is a freakin life coach. So its all possible. But really up to you.

Getting some small tasks taken care of today. Completing my behavioral health intake paperwork, completing my 2020 census (I learned last night that apparently if you ignore it, they start showing up at your house) and packing for a last minute trip. I’ll be flying out tomorrow morning.

Your census comment made me chuckle…was just Facetiming yesterday with a friend who is making serious money doing census work. And the way she gets good results is letting folks know she will continue to be sent to their house til they send it in or fill it out online. Glad you filled yours out!

Thats actually a really great point. There is a guy at work who I am accquaintances with who has some significant physical disabilities, and he has two little girls. I’ve never seen him with them, but you can just tell with how he talks about them and the pride and love he has for them that he is a magnificent father. He’s actually probably one of the most positive dudes I know of, nothing seems to get him down.

So I guess that can help me reframe my thinking on that specific qualm surrounding fatherhood. I’d want to do the physical activities I listed, but even if I couldn’t, it wouldn’t diminish the ability to provide emotional support and give them a loving home, or make me less of a father. That feels really nice to change my perspective on that specific worry. Thanks for helping me on that one :slightly_smiling_face:

Yeah. She didn’t just knock and leave. I think she rang the doorbell and knocked for a good 10 minutes, while I peered through the blinds. Haha.

It seriously took me less than five minutes to do when I hopped online today. It’s been on my “To Do” list for months. Sounds small, but it’s nice to take care of some of that crap.

It DOES feel good to check stuff off, especially little stuff. I sometimes add stuff I have already finished, just so I have something checked off. Keeps me feeling motivated.

And yes, the census is very quick.

PSA…U.S. residents, please fill out your census!!!

I recently did mine too! The poor guy rang 3 times and didnt leave. I thought it was a solicitor so I opened the door quickly and said “No thank you!” Poor guy left me a note and then I felt bad. But I did my due diligence and went online in filled mine out. I really need to be nicer to these people going door to door. :grimacing:

I almost never answer the door, if I’m not expecting someone. Because I usually feel obligated to listen to their sales pitch or whatever they’re peddling.

Avoidance has always been my go to. :man_shrugging:t2:

Yes same! And once I fell for this water filter scam and ended up paying 40$ a month for 2 years for something I could have bought myself at home depot. Then they wanted to charge me 600$ to cancel. So now I hold a grudge against all door to door people.

Hi. How did you get the “Total Savings” thing on your home page ? I have the days showing, same as you, but I can’t figure out how to get the savings thing.
Is there some special trick to do that ?

There is a place in settings to change what is displayed.

  1. Click the edit button
  2. Fill in your daily spending
  3. Click the heading type button
  4. Select money saved

Good evening, all. Well, now that it has been confirmed that I’m basically “stuck” in Belgium for the next two weeks (work, not quarantine), I have been out buying some extra clothing and stuff… my original job here was supposed to be only for two days, so the fact that another two WEEKS have been added to it means that the small amount of clothing that I had brought with me isn’t going to last very long !
Anyway, I’m about 40 minutes away from the 9-day marker on my counter, so that’s good. I’m going to watch a bit of TV and pack it in… I actually don’t have any work to do this weekend, for the first time in months ! Hopefully, I’ll get a lot of studying done anyway.
Stay sober all… and thanks for posting, it helps me to read what people have to say.

Anytime mate

Thank you for sharing. I admire your courage to open up about something so profound and personal. It is definitely an asset of yours.

I’m so sorry you’ve gone thru such a painful loss. It brought me to tears. I guess I can relate to some of it although my life looks different. Starting from zero is something I’ve needed to do too. It is possible. The sea of loss and bitterness may seem endless but it doesn’t need to be. Professional help might be a good idea if you’re not already receiving any. For me it took many days of tolerating emotional rock bottom, relentlessly choosing to find even something remotely good in each day (often failed), being honest and accountable and challenging myself to hope someday things will be different. I’ve slowly clawed a way up but I’m not out yet.

What I’m trying to say is that don’t give up. Talking to yourself is a useful exercise. I haven’t had the courage to do that yet.

Wishing you all the best :orange_heart:

P.s. Read your later posts about fatherhood. I don’t know much about that but there’s an Australian guy, Nick Vujicic, who was born without limbs. He’s married and has kids. I’m baffled by his attitude towards life. Find him in YouTube if you’re interested.
