Checking in daily to maintain focus #24

I’m sorry you lost a friend, awfully young too. Shit I’m 38, that’s too young to die.

But from the ashes we must rise. Best of luck to your daughter

Oh, I well understand wine o’clock! Much like @littlemisschatterbox said, I found for me it was about breaking down the associations…
5pm? Made it through the workday! wine o’clock!
Sad? Bored? Happy? Overwhelmed? Worked out and did chores? Or taking the night off? Long weekend! Camping! Tax time! Christmastime!
You get the idea :smirk: :joy:
One by one, we “untie” the association between these and uncorking another bottle. Slowly but surely. I read every single meme on here to distract myself in early days!

Some will say they are worried about how much time they spend on here reading in the early days. Hell, some days I still do. It’s nothing compared to how much time I wasted while drinking. And besides, I like to think of reading around here as though it’s shopping for tools to put in my shiny new tool box.

Every time I come here, I get a virtual hug when I need one. You’re no different. We’re all here together. I’m already proud of you! And you’ll feel so damn proud of yourself in the morning. :orange_heart:

“ We lost another good friend to alcohol on New Years day. He was only 39”.

I’m so sorry to hear this @Lisa07. That’s just terrible. My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your husband and his friends family.

When my son moved into his sober living house in LA at 23 years old he ask me and his mom to help him buy a black suit. The guy running the sober living house told him he’s going to need it. My wife and I were so shocked. We thought that’s a little harsh. And you know what? He did need it.

The reality is folks. It doesn’t matter how many days clean or sober you are or how much experience you got with addiction or sobriety.
Addiction kills. Addiction kills really good people.
Please don’t take that first drink. Or DOC. Just for today.

Hey @Kmills888! We haven’t met, but everyone is ecstatic to see you back, and that makes me happy for all of us! :relaxed:
Sometimes I wish I had found this place earlier, thinking I’d have more than my 6 months behind me. But other times I think maybe everyone would have just seen all my (years of) attempts to moderate. Sigh…
Either way, no sober day is wasted. Looking forward to bumping into you here! :orange_heart:

I’m so sorry for your loss. I hope that this moment of awakening to the reality sticks with your husband. It sometimes takes more than one of them. But I’m so glad for your daughter and for you, too, that she has an outlet. Work programs like that can be amazing and life changing for people. Just so happy for you!

Day 197.

I have a new class of problems today, getting irritated to have to spell my last name every time I answer the phone, when you do it 50 times a shift its frustrating

On the bright side it’s not incredibly long only 7characters so there’s that,

Thank you for that thoughtful message

I’m a strong believer in, everything happens for a reason! 6 months is amazing and regardless if you found this place 6 months ago or yesterday… You’re here! And you’re sober!

Congrats on your 6 months!!! That’s a HUGE accomplishment!

Just checking in here! I am at 190 days, and have had a great sober holiday. I went out of town for a few days for some fun events, had a great Christmas and New Year with the family and enjoyed some quality time! Honestly, alcohol didn’t really cross my mind much during this season, and I am glad.

I did do some thinking though. My mom and dad are both no longer with us. In looking back on memories with them I realized there was always alcohol involved. Either one or both of us were drinking when I spent time with either of them, and I realized that it consumes my memories of them. Today I am thankful that I have chosen a different path and that as my children grow up, there will be plenty of alcohol free memories of great time spent. This year, my resolution is to continue to strengthen my sobriety and get a few other things together in my life.

I hope that you all enjoyed your holidays and sober family time as well!

Thank you for the condolences @Fury, @Dazercat, @RosaCanDo , @littlemisschatterbox , @Conor689908 and @Drave. This is definitely the kick in the ass my hubby needed. We’ve lost quite a few people this past year to addiction but this one is hitting the hardest. This disease wants us dead but I refuse to allow it to happen to me and my immediate family.
Edit…sorry, I forgot @salty. Thank you!! :two_hearts:

No truer words can be said, it doesnt want to take us out quick either

It wants to get us alone and take everything slowly to watch us suffer to death

Good evening my friends. I have been sober for 43 days. I’m so thankful that alcohol isn’t in control of my life anymore. My best self is emerging more and more each day in surprising and beautiful ways. I feel more confident, I no longer feel the weight of a guilty conscience from blacking out every night, and my mind is clear. Things are good today.
