Checking in daily to maintain focus #54

Beautiful dog  I grew up with those, in my eyes the most loyal and kind dogs that a human can own. Strong and protective too.
But not only a companion but a big responsibility too.

The addictive mind is lying and you know that. How are you going to feel after drinking? It will be another setback, another disappointment.
Come on, one more day.

Take it a moment, a second, an hour at a time, friend. This feeling will pass. Practice a gratitude exercise, what are you grateful for that sobriety brings you? Listen to a meditation. Take a cold shower. Whatever it takes. Glad you came here to talk about it.

989 days no alcohol.
454 days no cocaine.
76 days no vape.
4 days no binge-eating.

Didnā€™t fall asleep til late. Woke up really late, then still needed more sleep. Have done both of my walks, all meditations, and returned some shorts to the store that I ordered the wrong colour of. My feet are hurting bad now but I really didnā€™t want to miss my evening walk 2 days in a row. I have my mental health assessment tomorrow, really hoping it leads to a referral for EMDR therapy.

Checking in. Day 201

A couple of my favoritesā€¦ I also listened to Sober Guy in the beginning but he kinda got political and nobody needs that shit when youā€™re trying to keep the wheels on the busā€¦ I wonder if his show got better yet.

Edited to add that I will have my own bedroom as soon as my youngest daughter goes to college. My wife likes sleeping with the tv on and I canā€™t stand light or noiseā€¦ I very much look forward to having my own room

Day 56,

Today was a productive and good day. I deleted grindr off my phone. That app is absolute trash and nothing is worth compromising my mental well-being. What a cesspool!

Checking in on day 361. Iā€™m feeling good about pretty much everything at the moment. Iā€™ve been cooking lovely food that weā€™ve all been enjoying, each of the kids has been getting on well at school and also being busy outside of school too. Iā€™m sleeping well at the moment and not feeling the need for afternoon naps quite so much, although they do sometimes still happen (love napping )
I was thrift shopping and have bought a few items recently that have reminded me of myself before kids and before all the horrible times weā€™ve been through. I even walked into a hairdresser today for the first time in 8 years and made an appointment for tomorrow morning!
And then this is the view from the kitchen window this evening. So magical.

I forgot to add that I treated myself to the Kae Tempest book signing event next week too.

@Jasty2 Im setting up my spare bed in my den today  Sometimes I have no problem sleeping with my husband and dog, but when I have a bout of insomnia, like I do right now, I donā€™t sleep till he gets out of bed for work at 5, then I can sleep a few hours. That definitely says something!

My wifeā€™s the exact same way. She needs the tv or something on the phone on. I need complete dark with no noise. Iā€™m a really light sleeper. She said maybe I should bring a pair of the ear plugs that I use in work home and try them. Not a chance. Iā€™d rather be able to hear the intruder and have a fighting chance before heā€™s standing over top of me while she just lays there grinding her teeth.:rofl:

You have been sober for 2 weeks now, donā€™t throw this away just for a short moment of intoxication that youā€™ll regret latest by tomorrow. 2 weeks is a really big achievement, but I know where you are right now, the thoughts of drinking are still strong around that time. It will get easier every week, in my case after about two months the thoughts of drinking nearly disappeared and now after 4 months I donā€™t think of drinking any longer. Youā€™ll make it through this day, we believe in you :hugs:

I woke up to a guy standing over my bed like thatā€¦ Never heard him break in because of box fan on high. I jumped out of bed, grabbed him and got him downstairs. It was only me and my youngest at home that weekend and he was sleeping next to me. This was the guyā€¦ never heard of anything happening to him he was charged with 1st degree home invasion, did about 3k of damage. Next time they may leave under different circumstances.
