Checking in daily to maintain focus #61

Checking in sober. Day 10.

I’m having dinner with a guy tonight. I’m not sure if it’s a “date” or not, but I enjoy his company either way. I think this time I need to take things slowly. My ADHD can make me impulsive and hyper fixate on someone new. At least I now know that.

It’s so hard to focus on work. I’m only at this job through next Wednesday. I’m training my replacement and trying to leave things in good shape for her.

Trying to focus on the positive things going on right now. Dealing with a lot of crap too.

@danam56 grateful that we are no longer in denial thinking that we are having a good time while drinking. We are on a healthier better path
@kareness Congratulations! What a great way to show you how valued and appreciated you are.
@trustybird hope you two had a wonderful time celebrating his birthday yesterday. I too have a hard time saying no but then say I have another obligation at the same time or just not feeling well. It is your time (which is precious). I am selective with who I want to be social with. For me personally, even when I am around people I love and want to hang with, I get drained and worn out. I don’t think I am antisocial (not that there is anything wrong with that) – just more considerate of my time and who I share my energy with.
@nony Thank you so much! Glad you are enjoying the meme thread – it really does help keep me sane  That is a tough read. I think I did start it WAY back when but never finished it – hope you can finish and enjoy as I’ve heard great reviews.
@mrfantastik Way to go with your double digits. Way to go on prioritizing your health today! Pesky cravings can F off. You are stronger than the addiction :muscle:
@Garry hope your meeting went well and you were able to get to the gym to release the stress. 6 days and counting is fantastic
@acromouse Sorry about your headaches – hope they will pass soon. 20 days is awesome – I know my headaches started to feel better around the 45 day mark. Our addiction has a way to give us anxiety and make us believe we need it to function or overcome some emotions. Sending you strength during these days – just remember that drinking will not solve anything.
@juli1 1 week milestone is amazing! Glad you are adding such amazing tools to your toolbox. Keep going strong :muscle:
@steve92 hey friend –I see this post was 12 hours ago. How are you doing now? We are here for you if you need to vent / chat. If the thoughts get loud are you able to call a help line or talk with a counselor?
@nas Congrats on conquering day 1! That is an amazing first step – keep the 24 hours adding up :muscle:

@selflove_42 great work on the consistency. That is all we can do — keep working on rewiring our brains which happens with changing habits and routines and be constant in our efforts. Grateful to see you diligently working on yourself.

Oh, good. I’m not the only one who has these flashes of “what if I…?” But I think you nailed it - sometimes thoughts of drinking are just these moments of mind wandering like you’ve described. There is never a bad time to get back to basics (I’m doing similarly lately).

day 53)

Yep, still sober - despite the option of a free bar tab. I really love working this place

One of my best friends used to be the DM but she’s left now sadly. Weirdly though, it seems a lot more organised lol

All I got today is that. Happy birthday @JazzyS
Hugs not drugs x

Hey everyone so I had a good appointment today. My therapist wants to try me on a snri called duloxetine. I was fine with that, went and picked up my script. Of course came home and read reviews and it has some pretty bad ones. Wonderjng if anyone has tried it? And possibly thoughts on it?

Checking in on day 140.
Got out walking with the doggo today for the first time in a while and randomly met an old work friend with her dog, so we walked and talked for an hour. It was nice to catch up and blew the cobwebs away.

Simple check in. Working on day 4. Sober despite some drama going on. Keep up the good work everyone. If for no other reason, just to show someone that needs it that they aren’t alone. :muscle:t2:

My thoughts are listen to your doctor and stop
Overthinking things. In the end pharmacology around mental health is not an exact science and results vary across all people so relying on anecdotal evidence from internet strangers will probably do more harm than good.

Go in with a posting mindset and then hopefully couple the meds with therapy to achieve the best results.

Day 123*
I’m tired and wanting so much more sleep than I am getting. I am trying to increase my poor financial literacy. Any suggestions out there for basic learning resources? It’s discouraging reading from voices that are doom and gloom and make it sound like you have zero chances for survival if you haven’t invested or opened xyz account by 30.

Good morning sobriety fam,

I’ve noticed my cravings only arise when: I’m bored, isolated, irritated, stressed, anxious or depressed. I.e. when some sort of negative emotion is bothering me. It’s a form of filling a void. My mind will usually be in a numb or scattered state, as that’s when I’m most vulnerable. What I really need to do is focus on everyday needs and emotional self-care. That means maintaining healthy sleep and diet routines, meditating and practicing frequent mindfulness, lots of exercise, maintaining personal hygiene and a tidy room/home, socialising, studying or learning, working and goal setting. I know that’s easier said than done when the mind isn’t onboard, but trying to stay mindful of them, or at least some or even just one of them can go a long way towards making you feel better. It’s the little things that count. If we’re not looking after ourselves or loving ourselves, how can we expect balance (sobriety) and happiness in life?

Some positivity affirmations:

  • Relax
  • I am more than capable
  • I am committed
  • I am complete
  • I am worthy
  • My existence is special
  • I can, I want to and I will own my life
  • Just breathe, and focus, ODAAT

As I write this a cyclone is hitting my city (in Australia) so everything is closed and outside is heavy rain and strong wind. Luckily power is still on. Some regions have been evacuated as a precaution.

Not sure what my plan is today yet, but I intend to try to make the most of it somehow… :slightly_smiling_face:

Have a wonderful &/or productive day or night folks :muscle::heart:
