Day 2
I’m so disappointed in myself. The only upside is that I only had 3 and didn’t get drunk. But I know it wont stay that way if I keep going.
Thanks Jazzy!! I really appreciate that! ![]()
@Butterflymoonwoman you are always so caring and supportive of everyone here–sending those good vibes back to you! Hope your day evens out and you feel better after your workout. Hang in there!! ![]()

Awe thank you SO much!!! I needed those good vibes ![]()
Lunchtime check in. Crazy day. My boss is back from holidays. My wife is also coming back from holidays this afternoon. Usually on these days, I spend some time after work tidying the house after the solo parenting chaos. I usually also have dinner ready when she comes home from a trip. Not going to happen today!
I had a rough short sleep last night. Glad it wasn’t made worse with alcohol last night. Pushing through the day today.
Talk to you soon. Have a great rest of your day.
Day 1383
2nd check in today… earlier I was in such a funk. Low energy, low motivation, and was in a bad mood. All I wanted to do was sleep ALL day! I did lay down for an extra hour (until 10am) but then i took baby steps to get myself going. Some days are like that. Where I have to focus on the next task and thats literally it. I got up, got dressed, did dishes, had a coffee, wrapped a christmas present (I am officially done shopping and wrapping for the year now), got my sons formula, and then went to the gym for a light leg day. Im just finishing up on the recumbent bike now.
Some days the best medicine against a bad mood, is doing the opposite of what I really want to do (as long as its healthy). I wanted to sleep all day but I know myself well enough to know that Id feel even worse if I did that. Being active, getting outside, being productive, helps me tremendously. Im glad i forced myself to get up ![]()
Now to head home soon and get a few more things done around the apartment. Going to make sure I get some prayer in as well. Along with my gratitude list.
Also Happy Thanksgiving to anyone who is celebrating that holiday today!

Day 39.
Today is one of those days that I would have given myself permission to start drinking at 10 AM…. when I started cooking. I would put on a record, light the fireplace, turn on the tree, and with a coffee in one hand and a vodka orange juice in the other, I would start prepping the turkey.
This year, we’re skipping the stress and getting deep dish pizza on The Strip instead. I’m trying to find ways to still make the rest of the day feel like a holiday. Maybe a nice long walk with the pup and a hot bath? Hubby works till 5 PM, so I’m left to my own devices today.
We’ve also starting thinking about where we may want to live after our stint in Vegas is over. With only a year and a half left before graduation, we’re mentally prepping for what might be next. It’s still too early to tell, but we’ve been eyeing Chicago as a frontrunner. He lived in the city during his years as an undergrad, and I lived in Iowa for mine. We both miss the Midwest, but we agreed that we need to be in (or very near) a city. Before that, we really need to fix our finances… but I’ve been saving lots of money in sobriety!
Anyway, it’s exciting to be looking forward. We’ve spent the first year and a half here just trying to put one foot in front of the other.
Grateful for this new community. And for whatever comes next. ![]()
@Noshame @JazzyS I am fairly well-versed in the mental health field because I’ve been a patient since I was 2 years old (in these sessions my mom would take me there and she’d talk to the doctor). My earliest memory of it is me playing with plastic blocks on the floor while they sat at the desk talking about my lack of development. It is both a blessing and a curse because knowing the mental health field like the back of my hand means I know all the tricks and gimmicks they use to outsmart or belittle patients, which triggers me heavily at times.
At this moment I am resting in bed and my next tranquilizer will be given in half an hour. It sometimes still baffles me how such a tiny capsule of chemicals can alter one’s functioning so heavily. Though right now I am just happy my brain is quiet.
While I do not pay as much attention to the numbers anymore I couldn’t help but stare at this triple win, today. It’s a small silver lining in a chaotic time.
Checking in
I have 62 posts to catch up on! This goes way too fast! But I love the vibe of this thread. I slept well, tomorrow I have tournament, Im a bit done with events, it’s been a long season! 2 more days and I’ll be off for 2 weeks!
Today it marks 18 months that my dad passed away, I sent a picture of him to my mom that she didn’t even remember, she was so thankful!
Off to bed soon! ![]()
Day 89.
All okay here today. I’ve been wrapping more of Michelle’s presents for her advent calendar. Only another 10 to wrap.
@JazzyS Thanks Jazzyjazz, wishing you a lovely, delicious day today.
Hope everyone has a good day and happy Thanksgiving to all of you celebrating it.

Checking in on day 102 sober!
Checking in.
I can make it through today but I really wish my Thanksgiving was different in many ways. Tomorrow I get to do those things I’d like to do with the kiddo. Today I can suck it up and deal with my parents’ idea of togetherness. Too much televisionand avoidance of discussion of anything that might mame anyone uncomfortable. Sure feels depressing. But I can tolerate anything for a few hours and I won’t act out or escape through substances.
I hope y’all have a safe, sober, and serene holiday if you’re celebrating. If you’re not, same goes for you.

2nd checkin just amazed about the weirdness of flirting sober in 2025. Lol. Help!
Check Up, Check In
I’ve been completely out of my routine today except for my usual meetings. It’s been a heck of a day being snowed in and it’s still snowing with no end in sight. No sunshine, just wind, grey and snow. We are at 10 inches right now in 24 hours. It’s the normal for where I live and I just haven’t gotten use to it.
I get out of the house everyday, even if it’s for a little, but I hate the cold and don’t have the motivation to gear up for it. I opened the door and took a couple breathes but that’s it. My plan was to shovel to the driveway but the plow hasn’t come as yet.
I attended a few meetings today, it was nice to see some familiar faces. With America celebrating Thanksgiving and I’m in Canada all my friends are busy and I’m bored.
I haven’t experienced boredom since being sober. But we all have feelings and I’m meant to feel them. Usually, I would be cooking right now but the meat isn’t defrosted as yet.
I know that I can reset my day anytime of the day, but don’t know how to at 5pm. I’m going to go join a meeting.
Enjoy your day everyone.
Checking in with 356 days sober from alcohol
My mom brought a bottle of wine into my house for Thanksgiving and no one drank their cups. I’m still sober but I wish she hadn’t done that. I’m starting to have memories of the anniversary of my last drinks. I remember how dark this week was last year. I’m going to all the same art festivals and remembering drinking or crying or talking to the mental health treatment facility when plans were going into motion to get me there. Plans were being made for christmas and everyone was talking about last year, when I was in residential treatment instead of with my family. I’m having sort of flashbacks and definitely dreams of those times. I know we don’t get anywhere without a journey and I’m glad i hit rock bottom because now I get to be sober and journey toward being stable and happy. And I’m grateful for that, don’t get me wrong. But ouch.
@Madds I hear you 100%. I’ve been getting caught up in a lot of “this time last year” thoughts and memories lately . A lot of things happened in those final days ( or even weeks ) leading to getting sober or we wouldn’t be here doing this right now. I don’t have any advice but I definitely understand.
Day 39. Part 2.
Well, I guess today is the first day that requires a second check-in. The holidays can be a real bitch, can’t they?
I think I’m realizing how much I drank in Nov/Dec to keep the family holiday scaries at bay. I texted my mother today. No response. She called yesterday, and I didn’t pick up. My father and I still haven’t spoken since his most recent outburst at the top of this month. I’m a little nervous about him reaching out today (since he will definitely be drunk all day/night and has a habit of acting out on holidays). But this year, I feel unable to mentally escape how much distance I need from my family. Always. But especially in the months when it gets dark early.
Today hasn’t felt like anything but white noise. Spent the entire morning and afternoon alone with the pup. Lazing about in bed. Pruning in a lukewarm bath. Watching “Repair Shop” until hubs gets home in an hour. Ready for dinner, but also wanting today to be over, desperately. I just feel like a sludgey puddle of sadness today. I have yet to get through this particular mood without drinking. The edges are just extra sharp today.
One day at a time doesn’t quite do the trick this evening. Might have to be a minute by minute kind of night. Please wish me luck and strength and conviction. I really, really need it today.
Hang in there. Its going to be over soon!
