Remember your only job on days like these is to make it to bed sober. Take it on minute by minute of you need to. Keep reading around and reaching out here. Do whatever you have to stay busy and distracted. Eat whatever snacks help. Go to bed early.Whatever it takes to not drink tonight. Hang in there you’ve got this.

@CharlieC great work on your 3 weeks!!! Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving with all the guests who did show up :people_hugging:

@JasonFisher si grateful we don’t use drinking as a coping mechanism. Hope you had a wonderful Thursday friend :people_hugging: love that you’ve been texting with your son.

@Butterflymoonwoman how did your day go? Sending love and hugs :people_hugging: :two_hearts: so glad you tacked the day in steps …I often need to do this. It helps to not get overwhelmed and keeps my anxiety at a low. Congrats on getting done with your Christmas shopping :clap:t4:

@Tragicfarinelli sorry for the stress and chaos. Hope MIL is ok:folded_hands:t4:. Keeping fingers and toes crossed for the interview results. :crossed_fingers:t4:. Safe travels tomorrow

@scaredsmol great work on the realization and putting in the work to get your sobriety back on track. Don’t let the disappointment hold you down. Be proud of where you are now and all the work you are putting in to make sure you don’t go backwards

@PositiveThoughts you survived the time sober and taking care of your daughter. This is a wonderful achievement. Glad you didn’t push yourself to get your normal stuff done as you were also dealing with little sleep. Hope you managed to get some rest tonight

I love this. Hope you had a very enjoyable Thanksgiving. Some days we do need multiple check ins…we are here for as many as are needed. One minute at a time is great…some days need this mentality. Know you are kicking butt and can push through. This phase will not last :folded_hands:t4:

A huge congrats friend. Super happy for you. I am sorry that you have been struggling so long with mental health. I too am baffled at how one pill can make your mood change so quickly and drastically. Sending love and hope you are doing better today :hugs:

@madds getting really close to the year mark girl. Yeah.. I remember my first year was all twisted with thoughts of where I was the year before and how I came to be sober. Be proud of yourself for getting through a Thanksgiving sober. Flex them sober muscles and remind yourself that next week you will have 1 year and you don’t need to dwell on the past as it has served its only function…to bring you to this point :hugs:. Keep that momentum going strong :flexed_biceps:t4:

Checking in on Thursday night

1073 days free of alcohol and weed

1487 days free of cigarettes

Absolutely beautiful day. Got in a wonderful walk pad walk this morning and then hit the pool for my swim. Didn’t have time for the sauna. Got all food warned and set out in time. Enjoyed time with friends while eating good food and watching football.
A friend brought his 2 year old son with him and it totally made my day. Was a lot of fun playing with this cutie. His belly filled laughter was so contagious and uplifting.
Clean up was surprisingly easy and quick (I was doing a lot of the dishes as we went so that they didn’t pile up at the end).
Relaxing now and hopefully sleeping soon. A busy start to the day tomorrow and then then not much planned…

Wishing everyone a wonderful addiction free day /evening…sending you all so much love

Hello everyone!

DAY 92 - Check-in

Winter was quite late this year but has definitely arrived. Still, it’s mild compared to the snow I’ve read about in other posts. I’m also happy to see that the start of the holiday season seems under control for many of us. Honestly, it used to affect me, but I’ve spent so many Christmases alone, because I couldn’t be bothered to travel back home, that I feel immune to those feelings now. When it comes to family, things at home are quite easy to navigate because we all give Christmas the same level of attention, which is just two days: the 25th and 26th.

We set up a Christmas tree (my sister does it for exactly one month, from December 8th to January 6th, as tradition dictates). Traditional cakes don’t touch the table unless it’s Christmas Day. I know it sounds awful, but I’m so relieved it’s this way. We don’t engage with relatives (that stopped ages ago), just with our closest family, and in a very polite way. As a family, we’ve learned to keep it decent, just enough, with nothing too personal. At the table, we stick to talking about the weather, and small gifts are exchanged to avoid embarrassing anyone. This has been a rule of ours for a long time.

It is what it is. This family was a war zone for years while we were kids, just enough to build alienation from each other that will last forever. But now, it’s super quiet; nothing really happens. Since my mother passed away in 2021, it’s even less eventful. In fact, I have zero awareness that Christmas is coming. I’ll only realize it on the day my brother comes with his family for lunch on Christmas Day. Even on that day, we order everything from a nearby restaurant. We don’t eat there just because my father only eats at one specific restaurant, but since they changed the chef, not even there anymore. What a family!!! :joy:

Today I am grateful for:

  • No judgment

  • Simple Christmas gifts

  • Food delivery

Wishing everyone a solid 24 sober hours!

Dentist appointment later this morning. Followed a couple of hours later by lung testing in hospital to determine if I have copd as my GP saw my saturation was rather low. Too late to cancel that so will see how it goes. That’s most of my day off accounted for. Working the weekend again. It’s OK.

Yesterday night I went to see a live music show with my niece in a small venue that reminded me of the eighties, in a commercial building in a commercial area. Improvised vibe. Still very nice. Just a bit late for my old bones, but made it home and to my bed before midnight :old_man:.

Anyway. Going to make today as good as I possibly can. Sober and clean. Hope you will all do the same, and hope all USA friends made it through Thanksgiving in one piece. Pic is the former depot of the Dutch West Indies Company, now the Maritime Museum. Much love.

I hope all who celebrated thanksgiving had a wonderful event and time with family and friends!

That sounds like a calm and peaceful morning. I hope it gave you a lot of happiness for the day

Dreams can be overwhelming sometimes. I love to read that you found a way to slow down. I find it so healing to do everyday things in a slower way. I hope you have better nights and restful sleep!

@amelie: Sounds great! Wich city are you visiting?

@CharlieC I hope your thanksgiving went well an there were a lot of joyful moments!

Jason, I’m so sorry to hear that you didn’t receive the care and attention you deserved and needed while growing up. It moves me deeply to see that you are now giving that care to yourself. Your friendship with yourself is truly inspiring to me. I’m so glad that you’re taking care of yourself and looking after your own well-being.

@Butterflymoonwoman I love that you took baby steps. (And we all know, how hard baby steps can be!) Hope your energy comes back soon :purple_heart:

@Mno I hope your dentists appointment goes well and you will be relieved from the pain. And also fingers crossed for your lung test. Hopefully everything will be just fine :purple_heart:

@Lucalds I`m glad you found a way to spend peaceful time at christmas with your family!

@JazzyS That sounds amazing. Relaxed and fun and filled with love. I`m happy for you!

@BlancheDuBois One minute at a time! Hang in there, you can do it! So glad you checked in and shared. I hope you got some good sleep and the next day is much easier for you :purple_heart:

Grey skies again, cold and drizzling rain. Groceries today, and game night this evening. Very much looking forward to it.

Peace and love always :lotus:

I can share some round numbers today: 40 days smoke free, 20 days binge eating free, 10 days sugar free. I am grateful and happy I found TS and so many lovely, supporting people. I craved and missed that for a very long time.

I am staying with friends for a couple of days and Im glad I can help out a little. Their house is under construction and my friend ist pregnant with their fifth child. So, there`s a lot of work to do and it keeps me busy. I enjoy being part of their chaotic, but very loving life.

Normally, chaos and being in a larger group of people for several days would have been an invitation for binge eating for me. I am happy that I have enough tools to not fall back in old habits.

Have a peaceful and sober day everyone!

Day zero

I am an addict and I cannot change that.

Last Saturday, I bought alcohol out of carelessness. On Sunday, I didn’t drink. On Monday, I drank because I couldn’t say no. Then on Wednesday and Thursday, I drank compulsively. I will spare you the details of my terrible state this morning.

Today, I find myself with only one goal: NOT TO DRINK ALCOHOL. It’s the only way to live. It’s not addictions that keep you away from your plans, your joys, your courage; it’s addictive behaviors. I’m standing up for myself. I’m done letting myself sink into ruin.

Have a nice sober day all of you. :waving_hand:

Christophe, the only reason you bought alcohol is because you wanted to drink. IMHO. Glad you’re back. It really is totally black and white. All or nothing. We’re addicts indeed.

Pretty crazy reststops (Raststätte right?) sell alcohol in the first place. I know it isn’t too long ago gas stations sold beer here too. Have a nice safe drive and have a shitty coffee and cookie for me.

This was sad to see today. @Christophe You had a lot of opportunities to say no to your demon. Use those tools. Maybe this time it will stick. Get that head to the pillow sober.
