Checking in daily to maintain focus #86

317 days since my last drink of alcohol.
Thats got to be a good way to start your day.
I could have very easily pressed that eff it button these last few weeks. I never, alcohol does not miraculously change your life and circumstances in a positive way.
For me, not drinking alcohol has changed my life in so many positive ways, its enabled me to step up regardless of whats going on around me.
Hope you all have a good one today.

Thank you for your extensive reply, Jazz! :folded_hands:
You are totally right, I know by now it’s poison, read enough quitlit and watched documentaries by now. But my conscious mind and my subconscious are always carrying out this ego-war about who’s got the biggest d&€k!

Your swimming session seemed everything but relaxing, as someone who’s gone back to regularly lane swimming, this would have pissed me off!

Morning check-in
Kicking off day 2 - I have to go to work now, not really in the mood. Once again, I know I need to change my attitude towards my job, which is not bad at all! I’m taking my gym stuff with me, after work I’ll go straight to the gym for a body combat class! :flexed_biceps:t2:

Day 246

Early check-in for me. I’m on leave this week and it’s nice. Not got anything planned apart from hospital appointments. However, I have so many things I enjoy doing that work gets in the way of I can easily fill my time.

Hope everyone has a good sober 24

Day 76

Its been a day. I wanted a drink, I didnt.

My brother is hopefully deciding to see the light and break up with his partner, its been Hella toxic. Not my story to tell. But there as always for him when needed.

Used a good part of the day to apply for a few jobs. I guess like anywhere else the job markets pretty shit at the moment.

Still here, another 24 banked.

Checking in: day 122

I dragged myself through yesterday. Baked some bread, picked up a parcel and slept most of the afternoon. Still so effing tired all the time!! Woke up with an upcoming migraine so let’s hope it doesn’t become a full blown one.

I am angry. Angry at myself for feeling like I do. Angry at the world for giving my dad cancer again. Angry at all the unfairness. Angry at all the unequality. I could go on for a while.

I need to deal with this anger today before it spirals, so I made a plan. After breakfast I am going for a stupid mental health walk before it gets to hot outside. I’m gonna work on some mindfulness/DBT exercises and I am gonna do a jigsaw puzzle. And maybe, if I have some energy left, channel my anger into some art.

After 1,5 year of almost continues therapy, I now recognize the anger, know mostly where it stems from and have some tools to deal with it. But my ultimate goal is to not be this angry (with myself) anymore. One step at a time. One day at a time. I don’t wanna drink over it. I am not gonna drink because of it.

Stay safe and sober :purple_heart::people_hugging::purple_heart:

I had intended to get in one last short, taper week type of ride yesterday. I loaded up, got to the trailhead and found I had forgot my shoes (second time in as many months) back at home 25 minutes away. So I turned back and when I got home, just stacked the rest of the wood for an hour or so instead.

I did hit a meeting last night, I want to join this group as my home group, and I will do that when I return from my ride next week. And I did call my new sponsor for a check-in and to set up a coffee date for tomorrow.

For today, another delivery of wood is coming, and I will stack for an hour or so. Each delivery is about 4 hours of stacking. And my son has another big step happening this morning, enrolling in his classes for his program of study in The Netherlands that starts next month. I am on deck to help him with that, if he needs it. We did make the tuition payment yesterday by wire transfer at my bank, that was another first for us.

I will meditate while I stack wood today.

Stay sober!

Day 6.

Yesterday evening I was very irritable & all I wanted was a drink. I even said it aloud a few times. Grateful I didnt give in. I feel much better this morning.

Today is day 14 I think, give or take 1 day because I can’t remember if I counted from day 0 or day 1. Had a close call a few hours ago but was able to pull my attention back and resume getting after it.

I also decided to set a ā€œunbroken-getting-after-itā€ timer to see how long I can go uninterrupted without deliberately wasting time. I think that will be interesting and help maintain focus at the level of seconds and minutes instead of the day. I have been hypothesizing that the more recovered/properly integrated you are, the more you can ā€œbe in the nowā€ as they say. I think that would mean making the most of your time at the most granular level: so no second is wasted, you’re just in the zone where time sort of disappears, even if it’s stressful and you’re on top of things but right on the edge of development.

@NewEnglander1970 whoohoo  20 months and going strong :flexed_biceps:t4:. Great to see you thriving. :hugs:

Grateful that you didn’t. Sending love and strength my friend. Be proud of how well you are showing up for yourself :hugs:
@Jesile you are most welcome love. Great to see you fighting with us. I know it’s a different ā€œclickā€ of the mind for each of us ..that moment when the two sides stop fighting and you can feel calmer in the journey. This only happens with time. I know it’s hard and uncomfortable. All I can say is that it’s worth it. You are worth it :people_hugging:

Well done on not drinking :flexed_biceps:t4::flexed_biceps:t4:. Wishing you luck on the job hunt
@Marieke hoping that migraine fucks off. Sorry love. I know how frustrating it can be to keep pushing through daily with pain, body symptoms and fatigue. It’s not fair and it’s far from easy. You have a right to be angry. Grateful that you are not letting that anger win or consume you. Love your plan for the day ..hope you will share some if your art with us :hugs:
@Spaxton93 well done on not drinking. That’s a win. 1 week tomorrow…you can keep pushing forward :flexed_biceps:t4:. Lean on us when the thoughts get loud :hugs:
@Buntz congratulations on your sober time. Keep stacking up the days :flexed_biceps:t4:
@Madds hope you are feeling better today :hugs:

Checking in on Tuesday morning
Slept okay. Got up out of bed later than I wanted. Enjoying my morning cuppa on the balcony while the humidity is still low.
My thumb has been killing me since yesterday. I put a brace on and still very painful. Night before last I had a dream of getting into a car accident and think I had hurt my hand somehow. The dream came back to me in bits and pieces yesterday which was very wild. Now my thumb is the only thing that hurts.
Gonna head to the pool and hopefully have a better swim session.

Wishing everyone a wonderful addiction free day… sending you all so much love :heart:

Day 3176.

I find that I do not romanticize a drink, I don’t miss drugs, and I don’t seem to have the intrusive thoughts that others do. I work my program, I live my life, and the thoughts of drinking/drugging are just not there. They could come back at anytime, but it has been a long time without them. Even if I could drink or drug safely I wouldn’t. I had my time with them and that time has long been over.

Day 15

Feeling the exhaustion but pushing through. I got this. I am even thinking of asking my old boss for more money, better shift for meetings and hopefully he will do it then I can just do the one instead of 2. I have the time to rest but feel its not enough and I definitely don’t wanna burn out.
I had to drive my dad to work yesterday because of an unexpected situation but he will be dealing with it today. I love helping him out and spending time with him. As much as I help him, he helps me so its a win win.

I am gonna try and make this boring day at work one I can bare. Hope all have an amazing sober day.

Thanks Jazzy :face_blowing_a_kiss: Thriving is a bit of stretch  I’m a drink away from Day1 …. So I asked for help this morning, I’m going to a noon mtg to mingle with other nutcases like me, then I’m going to chip away at my list of projects that need immediate attention. Good vibes, high frequency and grateful heart. Have a great day !! :winking_face_with_tongue::folded_hands::+1::tada::heart:ODAAT

1/2 exercise

A persistent headhunter has been messaging me and I am wondering if I should make the leap to a new position with more responsibility and 20% pay increase? There are some things with my daughter I am concerned about, like would I still be able to take her to the bus stop in the morning. And would I be able to manage four 9 hour days and 4 hours on Friday? I personally hate that work schedule. It would be a long day for me to be away from home Monday and Wednesday. Rest of the week would be wfh so I could manage it better. I think I’ll at least agree to talk to the owner and find out about it. Now off to my current job. Have a happy and sober day today everyone.

Day 1612 clean & sober
Day 8 of complete food abstinence

Morning everyone :sun:
It is a humid day here in Calgary, Alberta. My son and I had to make the long treak to the Childrens Hospital to pick up all his feed & trach supplies. Now we are home enjoying some AC in the living room.

Im hoping that today I have abit more energy. My weekly weight loss med made me pretty fatigued last week. I took my med today and so hopefully i have more energy this week in general.

Plans for the day… an online meeting, an at-home workout, physio for my son, some cleaning in my sons room, and I will spend some time doing my morning routine (itll be late as I forgot to do it 1st thing today).

Have a beautifully, wonderful day everyone!
