I always enjoy your photos - even this strange one :ferry:- and I love your life updates. I find them really calming.

Have a smooth sailing day

I love your list of 3 and might try this myself. Does it matter if it’s the same everyday? I always stress about that in these list activities. So I end up doing one list then never returning to it!!! The perfectionist in me needs to make it ā€œdifferent and interestingā€ for others to read

Day 7

Didn’t check in yesterday because I had a hospital visit. Although I felt fine in the morning it quickly deteriorated and culminated in a massive panic attack with the doctor. I have lots of PTSD issues with hospitals and even when I know I will be fine my brain just takes its own path. It’s embarrassing and completely mentally and physically exhausting. It wiped me out for the entire day. I didn’t even consider drinking though. Maybe I should schedule one for everyday?!

I also feel like I want to space my check ins out a little. I can then focus more on reading posts and replying to people and the thread when I have more time. Engaging more with the group, I guess.

I also don’t want every day to be smothered by thoughts of not drinking. I’ll check in on that day when I feel it overwhelm me. Otherwise I want to focus on doing things that help my recovery. That might sound counterintuitive but I know what I mean!

Thank you all for your contributions to this group. Love to everyone as you take your next steps :green_heart::smiling_cat_with_heart_eyes:

Second day of my weekend, working tomorrow. Don’t feel like going to writing class much today. Glad I have set a dinner date with my old friend who first invited me to join that group, so I sort of have to go. Will go home with her and meet another old friend there. Happy to be doing some social stuff outside work. I gave my home a good cleaning. Which it needed.

Dental hygienist visit first. Curious what she’ll make of the state of my teeth, about half a year into me actually taking some care of 'm. Not feeling as anxious as I used to do before an appointment like this.

On we go. The temperature is dropping a bit, I like that. No rain in sight which is less good news as we’ve officially entered a period of serious drought now. Will see how that progresses. In the meantime I’m going to make today as good a day as I possibly can. Sober and clean. Hope you will all join me in that friends. Much love from Leyla and me.

@TS66 Huge congrats Trey! Thanks for being here with us all. We’re in this together friend. Hope the cake was good.
@Amy30 I used to be blond too, so maybe that’s the problem indeed. I have to look up my day count number every day, and sometime two or three times, before posting here.
@PinkFirefly Good to see you check in friend. One day at a time for all of us.
@McDude Great numbers my friend! :people_hugging:
@NewEnglander1970 German cuisine is a bit suspect I’ll give you that. Not their cakes though! :birthday_cake: :face_savoring_food: Although you shouldn’t be afraid of some calories :upside_down_face:
@Mtrav0040 Congrats on 600 days and good inside my friend. That revelation is pretty big IMHO. Understanding love can be given and received in many ways has made my life so much better.
@JazzyS Hoping for some relieve from your symptoms Jasmine. :people_hugging:
@Techno_Tequila You do what works for you friend. One small tip: it might work better to think about stuff to do in recovery, instead of thinking about drinking. Might be easier said than done, but worth the try. Success to you.

Holy shit Trish.
That is pretty frightening. I hope you and your family are safe. I been reading about the smoke in New England where my family is. It’s pretty bad. I haven’t got much news about Canadian wildfires as we have plenty of our own. But looks like yours is currently a bit worse.
Take care of y’all

Morning check-in
Just checking in quickly before I leave for work. Today I have a busy day ahead as one colleague is on holiday, one is off and the other is on sick leave. That makes 3 persons less to cover the shifts. I’m a bit fed up of being stuck with one leg in the reception department since months!
After work I’ve signed up for 2 classes at the gym. I’m happy it’s day 5 instead of day 1. Day 5 for the umpteenth time, but anyway… that’s another story.

Thanks @Techno_Tequila, it’s the first time I have written it down so please take it and use it!

I will try and do different things but I think there will be some things that pop up more often than others.

I smoked a joint, so I had to reset my timer. For me, it’s much harder to stay away from weed than alcohol. But I’m determined to continue my sobriety and this time I’m gonna stay sober, no more weed. Have a great 24 everyone!

Checking in: day 125

Yesterday in group I shared my issue as I mentioned before and everyone was supportive and willing to help me. Since the assignment was all about asking for help, I would say that this a pretty succesful result. We had a very good session. Since all the men in the group were absent we got to talk about stuff women normally don’t feel comfortable talking about with men around. So we got to share some pretty heavy stuff. I was glad to get some things of my chest and to know I am not the only one who has been through these things.

After group I got a big migraine so went to bed early and even though I had lots of weird dreams and nightmares, I slept a lot and woke up sans migraine and feeling much better mentally.

I have some issues running through my mind today, mostly about friendships. Since I am sober I noticed that both my good friends’ behaviour makes me upset and that we do not share the same values anymore. Or maybe we never did and I just stayed friends out of habit and fear of being alone. Lots to think about but I am not gonna let it get to me. DBT will guide the way.

Today I’m gonna spend cleaning, making art and this afternoon I will pick up my new glasses. Everything in my own pace and keep listning to my body. I will not drink.

Stay safe and sober.

Super late check in after missing yesterday’s check in. Today was another sober gem of a day. Nothing really special happened and that suited me just fine. Noon mtg of AA discussing humility from Daily Reflections. Took my sweet time putting together a patio table from Wayfair while listening to sports radio in the shade, made a big jug of sun tea and cooked a cheeseburger on the grill. The smoky skies have cleared for now. Completely surrendering to my disease allows me a freedom that I’ve never felt before in prior recovery attempts. I always felt I was waiting for the ā€œother shoe to dropā€ … it was just a matter of when ?? I’m starting to feel a true sense of peace and serenity. ODAAT :folded_hands::flexed_biceps::+1::blush: Stay safe, sober and vigilant

It’s not the most original advice, but giving it to you anyway: make a list of pros and cons of smoking weed. Take your time doing it. Put it away and look at it again later. And repeat. Think it through. Feel it too. This might help in staying sober.

There is a contradiction in your statement that you are determined to stay sober and smoking a joint. That’s addiction for you. This might help. Maybe discussing your list here somewhere might help too. Being away from smoking for years now all the imagined pros have evaporated for me. Ruthless honesty friend. Success.

Day #176

Casual work day today and a big dinner. Kids are acting like they consumed 4528375 pounds of sugar and have more energy then a standard nuclear reactor. Feel like bed time is gonna be interesting. Gotta get some good sleep because I have a very busy day tomorrow

Day 1280.

Checking in. Sober.

Got a huge day ahead with work. Been picking up a bunch of extra things to do, so I’m kinda stressed and busy but still grateful I have the option, if that makes sense?

We had to seriously cut down on travelling over the past year, but have a small trip planned starting next, so that’s one thing I’m well excited about.

Day 79.

Restful.

Noodles tail has gotten a bit better the last couple of days so thats a plus, shes super skittish at the moment though we just need to figure out why shes not her usual self.

Thankfully my car is back together and running again. Spending some time with mum tomorrow, so ill be able to check on my brother and mum and I can converse some more about how we might be able to help him out.

Really hoping I hear about this job tomorrow and its positive.

24 banked again.

Thank you to everyone for asking after Noodle and also cheering me on lately its awesome.

Day zero

For a while now, I haven’t been able to break the cycle of destructive nights out. I just can’t seem to do it.

Today’s a rest day. No alcohol tonight. I have a good reason for that.

Tomorrow I’m starting a 7-day solo hike in the Haut Jura. No phone and no alcohol.

I’ll be more like myself after that.
