10 days here, after a fatty liver diagnosis… Anyway, alcohol always gave me a “regular” trip to the restroom every morning. Since quitting I have been so constipated! I feel so bloated as well. Is it just my body healing from the damage alcohol has done? Ive upped my water, fiber and altered my diet tremendously since my recent diagnoses as well but cant seem to get regulated. Ive researched Bloom greens and colostrum, but didnt see anything regarding if I can take it with my liver (obvi checking with my doctor as well) but I’ve read reviews it helps with gut health! Tried smooth move tea and that “worked” but made me feel sick… anyway any advice is appreciated! Sorry for the tmi Also insomnia has creeped its way back in after my first few days of sleeping HARD
I am struggle bussing but at least I am sober!
Thank you! I have read the first one but the second is helpful seeing other people get back to normal after some time!
I remember that it was more of diarrhea back in the days.
I guess alcohol took a toll on my colon as well and it took all the organs some time to recover.
Congratulations on your 10 days keep on going. It will get better over time.
Also: maybe try some running/walking which is usually helping me a lot. Sometimes too much.
I have upped my step count, maybe more actual exercise might help! Thanks
This is what brought me into the hospital…
C. diff is a bacterium that can cause inflammation of the colon (colitis).
I’n not sure where I picked it up, but it’s a good thing I got in because there were a bunch of other issues unrelated to my pooping like a goose.
Treatment:
-
Antibiotics: Antibiotic treatment is usually effective in treating C. diff infection.
-
Fecal transplant: In severe cases, a fecal transplant may be performed where healthy stool from a donor is transplanted into the infected person’s colon to restore the balance of gut bacteria.
Those signs were on my hospital door.
Apparently it kills a lot of people.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the overall mortality rate for C. diff is around 10%. However, this rate can be significantly higher in certain groups of patients. 20% to 30% over 60 years old. Luckily is was gone in 5 days.
10 days is amazing but also not very long in terms of healing the body. My experience was similar to @One4theroad By day 10, I was finally ‘regular’ for the first time in years. It still took 4-5 months for my body to really feel “normal” (and another few for my mind to catch up). Of course, everyone’s different. Be consistent and patient and your body will keep healing
But if it becomes a serious issue, reach out to your doctor.
No diarrhea, fever or stomach pain here but helpful to know about this disease!
Thank you for this!
I’d just like to say thank you for the TMI! This is the kind of stuff that can be really helpful for others going through it. Even if it’s sh*t talk.
It certainly can take time for things to get back to normal. With your liver stuff going on, all I can think is to stay healthily hydrated and talk to the doc. Time can heal a lot though.
I’d give my story, but you read it already.
Thank you!! I’m glad I can have somewhere to vent and not be judged!
I would say totally normal for now. Your body and mind has lived on strict alcohol rules for a long time, so now you are telling it to stride off on a totally new path. It’s recalibrating and learning. Using fibre it never got to. Hydrating itself.
Hang on in there, I know it’s not nice. But you got this
Like others have said, it sounds like totally normal, and if it doesn’t go back to normal, seeking advice from a doctor is recommended. And you’re still in early recovery just like I am (48 days AF). I haven’t had constipation issues since I became a vegan, but I had issues when my diet was poor. Your day 10 is awesome, really good job! Stay strong, it will get better!
One thing not mentioned yet is Yoga. Apart from reugular long walks, there are poses and movements that I find very helpful to keep things moving.
Try eating licorice, it’s a natural laxative, very mild but it does work. &
Thats really encouraging, thank you!
Ohh okay! I am going to try some yoga! Im all for trying more natural routes first over others!
When you say “upped your diet” there is no further detail.
Your diet should contain a very large proportion of vegetables, fruit and unprocessed foods.
We’ve all damaged our bodies and brains with addiction, and dealing frankly and positively with that recovery can be a challenge. We want to think that once we quit drinking, well, life should just be unicorns and rainbows, right? But it’s too much poop or not enough poop or whatever.
Recognizing that your sobriety is the most important thing for you is huge! Every day a drunk goes to bed sober is a win.
Upped my fiber, and altered my diet from eating out, and drinking soda all the time to way more veggies and homecooked meals with zero eating out and havent had soda in 2 weeks!
