Day 1 and scared, sad, depressed, and hopeless

It’s not one day at a time, its hour by hour, minute by minute and sometimes seconds by seconds.

This is so true for me and I remember coming into recovery and someone saying:
“If a week is too long try to stay clean for five days at a time.”
And it helped me to reduce the overwhelming feeling of what if I can’t make it thru the week. So far it’s been helpful

It can be yes. Whatever it takes friend. A lot of these negative feelings come from withdrawal. And a lot of these feelings we hid from (ran away from) by using our DOC’s. Sober we’ll need to find other ways to deal with these feelings. And we can and we will. But first make sure you’re sober and clean. Just for today, just for this hour, just for this second when needed… Things will improve. Hang out with your peers. Anywhere you can find them. We’re in this together friend. Glad you are with us, the both of you @EYEYEY and @Sunshyne365 :people_hugging:  :people_hugging:

Be gentle with yourself for a while when youre going through this. Just dont drink. Thats it. Ive only got 25 days and its scary, and difficult in many ways. But ive done 25 days with the help of this forum and MANY other tools like AA meetings and sobriety literature, focusing on my spiritual side and sometimes just tricking/gaslighting myself. "If you dont drink today, you can drink tomorrow.‘’ It calms me down a lot and has gotten me through the cravings, which dont last forever!

You can do tgis friend we are here for you!

Thank you for your words of encouragement and advice. I’m bing watching videos. I don’t have many AA options when I live that agree with my schedule, so I’m relying on any online communities and binge watching sober youtube channel till I can finally fall asleep and put this day behind me.

Your not wrong but although right now every minute feels like an eternity, every minute is a minute stronger. Short term pain for long term gain. Personally I stayed on here nearly all day everyday at the beginning bc I couldn’t do it alone. I’ve said it before and I’ll probably say it again but this place and these people saved my life, stick with the winners bc we got your back.

24 /7 AA Zoom meeting, camera and mic off or jump straight in and raise your hand. My advice to you is sit and listen bc everything you think you know about alcohol and sobriety is wrong, like most of us you have a 100% failure rate until the day we listened to long term sober people and then started to do what they do

Welcome @EYEYEY
I second what @Dolse71 said- you grow stronger every minute you fight through, and as the withdrawals subside, youll find the strength to continue to deepen your sobriety. Don’t try to do it alone. There are lots of good people here to connect with, and many online meetings in whatever flavor you prefer all throughout the day.

It’s great to see someone new who is willing to try different things to stay clean. Remain willing and you will never need to use or drink again. If you feel like using reach out to some source of recovery - post here, call a sober friend, replace the old behavior with something positive. If I can do it, YOU can do it.

Welcome @EYEYEY and @Sunshyne365
Glad ur here with us!

Like others have stated, the seconds become minutes, which become hours and then days n weeks. It does get easier over time. In early recovery i was very much minute by minute as well. As long as i work on my recovery daily (doing things that keep me strong in sobriety), it gets easier.

To add to what @dolse71 said… theres also the Intherooms app for meetings aswell. They have na meetings, aa meetings, and other types of meetings in case one of thase stand out to u.

Hope to see u posting more

Good Morning! I survived Day 1 with your help. Thank you @Dolse71 …i stayed on the 24/7 AA meeting till I could fall asleep. Will be on again tonight. It’s the nighttime that is the hardest. I’ll be checking in frequently.

Congratulations on making through day one! There’s a podcast (?) it’s only two seasons that I liked called F*cking Sober the first 90 days. I found it on Spotify. For me it was relatable, so figured I’d share that.

That’s great :+1: so today we are just going to do another day 1.
Meetings and this community, these are your tools so when it gets hard open your tool box and put some work in. Once we’ve got a solid foundation ( I don’t need to drink today) we can then start to build on it ( how do I live without alcohol) but just for today keep it simple. Well done :slightly_smiling_face:

For right now. For right here…this is all you need to focus on.

Acceptance and surrender.

Just lay your head on the pillow sober tonight. Reach out others. Go to a meeting. Go easy on yourself. You got this!!
