Congrats going to bed sober. Waking up not freshly hangover is the best! Keep going strong! You got this! Do whatever it takes to go to bed sober tonight!
Checking in. How you holding up?
I’m on Day 4!!! Finally detoxed and physically feeling better. The cravings are real and I’m doing the work, staying as distracted as I did on Day 1 reminding myself that I never have to do this again. I was reading an article about how many people never make it to Day 4, that was me for the past 10 years so it’s a great sense of accomplishment, however I will not be complacent and I will not take my eye off the prize. It’s still at moments second by second, but with this APP and the 24/7 AA I’m staying strong and sticking to my plan. I’m not sleeping AT ALL…but I was never a good sleeper so it’s to be expected. I remind myself that my body will sleep when it’s ready.
Thank you dearly for checking in, I cannot express how much gratitude I have for you. I’m very isolated so a thought is like winning the lottery.
Will keep checking in!
Congrats on day 4! You are going great!
@sticky you said it and I will.
Well done your doing all the right things and your attitude is spot on
Connection is the opposite of addiction. Let us never forget this disease wants us isolated, lonely and ultimately…6 feet under. I take alcoholism deadly serious, cause if I don’t…it’s seriously deadly.
You have to make decisions for yourself, but what did I do to get (and stay) sober?
-
Started going to AA. Moved from the back row with head down and not talking to anyone to getting right in the middle of it. Getting a sponsor. Start working the steps. Take up a service position.
-
Exchange numbers with other members and start your day (every day) by sending and receiving gratitude lists with them. Find things to be grateful for and learn to stop complaining about life.
-
The power of daily prayer. Get over your God complex if you have one and accept you don’t run your life…cause when people like us run our own lives we instantly get into trouble.
-
Utilize phone apps like My Spiritual Toolkit, AA Shares, Recovery Elevator podcast, sober shares podcast and fill your mind with that content everyday. You had plenty of time to waste drinking so you’ll have plenty of time to fill now making yourself better.
-
Go easy on yourself. Give yourself grace. All we are trying to do here is have a daily reprieve from booze and drugs.
You got this
TW: social media
She has an instagram sobriety meme page too at fucking_sober (dont want to accidently tag someone here) shes HILARIOUS but has motivational stuff too
Yes she does!!! Wish she’d make another season
@Aussie_Tiger Thank
you for taking the time to share these wise words of wisdom and advice. I’m following the plan and staying strong. This is no joke…it’s the hardest thing to kick. It blows me away how one moment I’m perfectly fine and the next all I can think about is “hmm I wonder if I can just do one glass of wine” and then it spirals! Just like that! So I hop on here and see your comment and I’m like ok, I got this.
Thank you It’s truly helping me day by day.
@Sunshyne365 How are you doing? I’m successfully wrapping up Day 5. Thinking about you
@SarahBear is today your day 30?
As you progress in recovery you’ll find that booze/drugs was never really the problem. That desire for “just one drink…cause I got this now” is akin to Eve taking a bite of the forbidden fruit. It’s us telling God (higher power) that we know better than Him. It’s ego.
The sooner we key in on the notions of humility, acceptance and surrender…the less we’ll want that first drink. Which for alcoholics is deadly, b/c by nature we can’t stop at just one.
Im in the US so it wasnt then but it is now!! I
Thanks for counting and congrats on your 5/6 days!
Congrats to you!!! I can’t wait to celebrate that milestone
You will i feel it one day at a time
Woah…Day 7 and the cravings are hitting HARD and my normal routine is off. I need to find distractions I worked out sp much this week my body is in so much pain, so that’s not an option. Im in good spirits and not feeling depressed or anything, I just want that glass of wine. It’s truly unbelievable how powerful this poison is.
Me too, I kept saying I can make it to day 10 with no alcohol but by day 10 I had a beer in my hand. My friend told me don’t look at day 10 every day is day 1. I am now on day 14 and half a month in. I don’t think about it I just do things that make me happy and keep me busy.
One day at a time. Reach out to someone who is rooting for you if you want a drink. You e got this. You are loved by me and so many.
Blessings and prayers being sent.
Type AA online meetings and what country you’re in (for me i type Online aa meetimgs great britain) on google and you’ll find the aa site for your country, the option to put your zip/code, what day and time range and itll give you all the meetings in your country, that day inbetween which time slot youve selected. Im a group memeber of a Thursday night big book meeting in bristol, UK, (bristol is 2 and half hours away) i went to it once, kept going, made bonds and friendship, stayed and became a group member. Attend every week.b
It will pass. Have a hot cup of tea or hot chocolate, have something to eat, watch a movie, etc, take a hot shower or maybe just go to bed early. You can do it. Do whatever it takes to go to bed tonight without alcohol. Waking up hangover free and to your day 8 will feel so good in the morning! @EYEYEY
