My doctor wants me to have a liver scan which has scared the life out of me and increased my anxiety. I’m hoping im overthinking it all as I don’t have Jaundice or itchy skin. The end of today will mark day 4 of no alcohol for me so I’m hoping what ever way I’ve damaged my liver it will hopefully start to repair.
The important thing is you’re taking action
 Did you schedule the scan?
They said they were going too.
Good news. The information will be helpful to make sure you become healthy, or maintain your health - either way it’s good news ![]()
I know it’s scary. It seems like a huge red warning light. At least now you’re sober and clear enough to see it ![]()
Well, liver is an amazing organ. If you treat it right, it can heal itself. One drop of alcohol, and the damage continues. How was your blood work? And good job with day four! The number one thing you could do for your liver is to completely abstain from alcohol.
it will ease your mind once you have done it wish you well
All the more reason to keep yourself sober for good @mgwebber1986
They said the levels were really high. Oh I’m never touching that toxic poison ever again.
Jaundice would be a sign of severe liver damage, so I’m glad you don’t have that. Make no mistake, that is an endgame symptom.
I had high very ALT levels 2 years ago. They’re now just about normal after 2 years of massively reduced alcohol intake. To give you an idea, mine were 4x the normal level and I had no other major visible symptoms (other than looking run down). My target for my next set of blood work is to get them into “normal” range which I am only 20% outside of.
With any luck you will have alcoholic fatty liver which is repairable, rather than cirrhosis which is not (but is manage with sobriety).
I’m glad they scared you, you should be scared. It scared the hell out of me. It’s a vision into what life holds for you if you don’t stick to sobriety.
Yeah I’m really glad I don’t have Jaundice either. In the nicest way possible that puts me at ease a little as mine were X2 the normal level. Only 20%!? That’s amazing! Go you!
yeah here’s hoping it’s just the fatty liver as I know it’s reversible by quitting drinking. Oh 100% I’m glad they scared me too! I don’t want to speak to early but I’m almost at 4 days and I feel really really good today
just hope it lasts the more I abstain and drink 3 litres of water per day.
Congrats on 4 days. It took my health starting to decline for me to really commit and be “scared” into sobriety. Such a good thing. I had and am working on healing my fatty liver and even had a case of acute pancreatitis caused by alcohol. My body was saying NO more !!! It can be so scary dealing with health especially when we know deep down the cause of it. You got this, no matter the results abstaining and working for a better life and health will be so rewarding to you.
I would get upset when i was on and off with sobriety after knowing I had these problems with my organs. Upset that others could go their whole life drinking without having these issues , irrational I know. I feel like it almost was a gift because I don’t know if I would have stopped without it happening. Without alcohol we get the chance to be present and reach our full potential.
I wish you nothing but the best of luck on your sober journey. ![]()
Try not to over worry, it won’t change the outcome. The best thing you can do is be sober, and you’re doing that.
Stay hydrated with plenty of water, eat well, rest all the things that you can control.
You’re going to be okay ![]()
Thank you ![]()
The liver is an amazing organ. If you let it heal, it will.
Every liver is different, but fingers crossed you will be fine if you look after it from here on out.
