Day 7 and would love a glass of wine!

Day 7, weather is great and we’re having a bbq.
Wish I could just have a few glasses of wine!
I know if I drink today ill drink tomorrow and so on.

It’s so hard!!

Congratulations on seven days! I’m new at this sobriety stuff too, but I’ve found new positive aspects of being sober everyday since I stopped drinking. Hang in there, it’s so worth it.

Thank you. You’re so right. I’m going to stay strong.
I know it gets easier just so difficult today.

I totally understand. I find gatherings with friends and family are more of a challenge than days where I’m focused on other things. When I do attend gatherings I challenge myself to be more social and focus on enjoying my sober time with friends and family. When the gathering wraps up, I always feel better having not had a drink. Usually, to my surprise, I also find I had a good time and I’ll remember the moment the next day.

Stay strong and I hope you enjoy today!

I’m so glad you’re doing well.
Great advice, thank you:)

That first week is a bitch! Your mind is like, why aren’t we drinking??! But you’re doing so good~! I would literally say out loud (alone) that I’m a non drinker and I want to be better/healthier! Being the very best that I can be is/was a goal and it’s still in my mind daily.

Yep. Your right about that! And you already are thinking a few glasses of wine.

Congratulations on your one week Daisy.
Just for today. Right now. Keep your glass filled with refreshing sparkling water. Or a lemonade sounds great with BBQ

Great job checking in here first.
That first week is the hardest.

Thank you so much! Really appreciate the support! It doesn’t help that my partner smokes the occasional weed so I feel like I’m losing out even more so!

Resist the urge and do anything and everything you can not to drink, it’s a rabbit hole and sobriety is better but I can definitely understand the urge to want to do it. Let the withdrawals go and feed your body something better whether it’s exercise, healthy food, laughter go do something you love instead :metal:

Tell me about it. My wife still drinks like a fish. She had cocktails at dinner last night. I just feel too good sober. That first week is really really hard. Look how far you’ve come. One week IS a big deal. You know you don’t want to have to do that again.

Can you escape for a bit. Get away for 20 minutes walk and deep breathe. And what I think @DLS said. I read talking out loud to yourself to stop the urges can work. Fucking scream. Stamp your feet.
Hang in there.

How many days has it been for you?

I’m at 591.
All because of this community and checking in daily and doing my gratitude list on here every single day.
It does get easier. But it’s been so worth it!
I’ve been on here before asking for help just like you and I was talked out of it and pretty proud the next morning. Really proud.

That’s amazing! Well done!
Where do you do your gratitude list? Is it a list of a few things you’re grateful for on that day?

Wine is so overrated!!! Who needs wine?! Plus for me, I end up drinking the whole bottle and feel like shit for 2 days. I would much rather drink some juice and call it a day. Hang in there, it gets easier. :purple_heart:

There’s a great bunch of us here.
There’s always room for more.

Im so grateful to be hangover free. I use to get crushing hangovers. :face_with_head_bandage: at 3am :scream: the worst. And then I’d drink again. How stupid was I doing that. Such a viscous cycle. So hard to break.

But seriously, just for today. Just for this BBQ. Don’t pick up. It’s magical how the numbers add up.

I was drinking 2 bottles a night:( every night!:frowning:
I’m really hoping to stick with it forever now. I was so happy for the 6 months I was sober 6 months ago!
Thanks for your support:)
