I was gifted a very fancy sewing machine many years ago and haven’t learned how to use it, yet.
2026 will bring more dedicated hobby space into my house so we will see what happens then.
Maybe I’ll follow your lead and try my hands on sewing this year.
I’ll post my new sewing space as motivation as soon as its set up.
Day 1 done. Letting go of a gift I know I won’t use. Someone else will like it.
It’s crucial to get decluttered items out the house. I’m taking them out weekly or biweekly unlike the minimalist game site that tells to do it daily.
I don’t do it daily either. I don’t have the time or resources to go to the recycling centre and the charity shop daily. And then there are other trips to consider, like bringing out of date medicines to the pharmacy, selling things and dropping it off at the post, re-gifting things to other people, old blankets to the animal shelter, etc etc…

I’m joining in, although if I know myself, I’ll probably drop away from the challenge come day 7 or thereabouts. And not because I lack the determination or the clutter itself, but because my house gets overwhelming. Neither my husband but my son have any interest in decluttering stuff. I don’t think either of them have EVER picked one thing to throw out or donate spontaneously, only with my prompting. The stuff is exhausting, but also I don’t want to nag. So there I am
Anyways, today I chucked out some splintering wooden kitchen utensils and takeaway chopsticks, relocated some less-used kitchen ware, and returned a fork to my Mum’s.
Keep at it, folks! Hopefully we can keep each other accountable.
I need to donate my clothes. I have shirts on hangers in my shirt stable that haven’t been worn in years or at all. I’ve tried to choose some to donate, but I end up rationalizing ways to keep them. Why can’t I just let go? Neither of the ones I haven’t worn were gifts, or hold any sentimental value, I just feel I will need them.
In the next 7 days, I will choose 10 shirts to donate. Mark my whinny!
Pics of the 10 shirts so we can come up with reasons why you should keep them just a little longer.
Deal.
Look for those soon.
Im in! @HoofHearted
Got em. In fact, I doubled it and picked 20 shirts to donate. Mainly work related shirts and a few shirts I got on a trip to DC and other random shirts I’ve not worn in years.
Next is pants…
Well done!
@Raspberry @TrustyBird
You wanna sew something nice out of these shirts? ![]()
I got rid of three shoes today.
No, not three pairs, just three shoes. Don’t ask.
You can’t get rid of that!
That’s a rare low-volume limited access special edition shirt provided only to employees of Silver Reef Casino Resort.
That could be worth a lot of money in 50-100 years if a series of unlikely events transpires. Do you really want to take the risk?
Didn’t think so! Back in the closet.
Okay this decluttering is not a daily activity for me. Today I have day off and I decluttered in the kitchen. Pantry was a gold mine, found lots of expired food. Item count I’m on day 9. ![]()
I also reorganized some shelfs and am super happy for figuring out a better place for a food mixer.
@TrustyBird how is decluttering clothes going?
@HoofHearted great start!
Clothes can be tricky to let go. For me it’s partly because they are useful items. But there’s a reason some get never worn. Wrong fit, wrong colour, itchy material. Obvious pieces I’ve let go but there is a maybe pile I’m hesitant to let go.
@Merryshoes it can be tough to declutter things if people living with you don’t care. Are they against decluttering?
@DanielaJ unpaired socks are common but shoes without pair is rare. Are you sure you are ready to let go? ![]()
@HolySquid @Cjp how is it going? Any good finds?
I’m full on in January declutter mode: I found my very expensive watch I got as a gift from my other half… not worn for years. Well, I’ve been wearing it for the past 3 days straight.
Trip to the recycling centre yesterday and donations to the charity shop today.

Great! Last night I tried on a pile of clothes and was able to put quite a few in my donate bag. No new shopping this year yet either.
A box and a bag of giveaways. I donated 80% of my shorts. Some I’ve had since I was a teen and rather than getting sentimental about it I felt the good memories and put them in the bag.
This weekend we rearranged two rooms for better flow too. It feels nice in my home right now.
Decluttering continues in the kitchen. Now I have room and even an empty shelf on cabinets.
I sometimes watch Space maker method on youtube. It helps to see I’m not the only one struggling with clutter and letting go.
It’s more that their threshold for clutter is much higher than mine, or they don’t see their stuff as clutter. For me, clutter is things that are around, have become useless or redundant, and also they are in your way, taking up loads of space and not being used for anything. For them, if those things are not actively tripping you up, they are not clutter. They are just there. But it really stresses me out to see stuff everywhere I look.
I absolutely love Space Maker Method. What she shows is just so real, you really see how and why many of us struggle with our stuff and space.
