I avoided AA for the same reasons and then was introduced to the rooms by the rehab I went to, I wish I had done it earlier. It is always said that god can be a higher power of your choosing, people use Mother Nature, a loved one that has passed its whatever YOU want. Some say GOD stands for group of drunks or good orderly direction, there is a wide range of spiritual concepts and no one can tell you what to believe in. Hope this helps
