Echos of Then, Sounds of Now

Been on a crazy dream pop kick recently, recently built a 40+ hour playlist on Spotify!

Today’s find is a track called “All I Ever Was” by Clear Coast from their Departure album. The synth is strong with this one, with some awesome soundscapes!

A go-to track I always find my way back to is a song called “Cherry Hill” by Russ from his There’s Really A Wolf album. I used to have a couple 12” subwoofers in my car and this song was LOUD. Also has some relatable lyrics!

New album released today by Joji called Piss In The Wind and it’s killer.

Top three tracks:

  1. “Past Won’t Leave My Bed”
  2. “LOVE YOU LESS”
  3. “Sojourn”

For a go-to jam today I have the song “It’s Far Better To Learn” by Saosin from their Saosin album. This whole album will always have a place in my heart.

Judging by the wild album art yall are much cooler than me. I’m not familiar with most of this much, but loving that art for sure

lately I’ve been on this kick:

Atmosphere, Girl Talk, ekoh, vin jay, hilltop hoods, bliss n esso, and RTJ

Album artwork gives me an image to hold onto in my imagination long after I’ve stopped listening to the music! Whether it’s minimal or overblown, reminiscent of the feeling of the music, or just a seemingly random image all play into how I interpret the music!

I definitely know Atmosphere! “Your Glass House” and “Became” are a couple of my favorite songs of all time, I’d love to see him perform! RTJ is also amazing, “Legend Has It” was the first song I heard by them and I’ve been a fan ever since!

As for the others I’ll have to do a little research, I definitely appreciate the suggestions! :smiling_face_with_sunglasses::call_me_hand:

Probably not dark enough for your taste going by what I have seen on here but this was released last week and was 46 years in the making. When 5 kids listen to their parents Iron Maiden, judas priest, accept you get an 80s nwobhm in 2026 who are not just a gimmick. I saw them support Wasp and they are shit hot live

I love all things heavy metal! I just listened to the album, and I really enjoyed it! I was especially fond of the song “Barren Lands And Seas of Red”!

I love hearing that they were great live as well! Live performances can definitely solidify my love for artists based on things like their energy and stage presence! Thanks for the recommendation, I definitely enjoyed a little change of pace :smiling_face_with_sunglasses::call_me_hand:

New jam for today is a song called “FIG TREE” by sleepazoid from their New Age album! Definitely a unique find, big fan of the lead singers voice and the wild yet chill vibe!

A classic that played a big part in my entrance into music in general thanks to my parents is a track called “Bat Out of Hell” by Meat Loaf from his (and Jim Steinman’s) Bat Out of Hell album! Still a song I’m always willing to listen to from start to finish. I’m also a huge fan of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, so Marvin is iconic to me in many ways!

Die hard SOAD fan here! They were one of the first “explicit content” CD’s I got when I was younger! The Toxicity album has some of my favorites songs like “Prison Song”, “Shimmy” and “Toxicity”! But I’d have to say my favorite SOAD album would have to be Mezmerize!

Serj Tankian’s solo work also has space in my heart, his Elect the Dead album is very replay-able!

My brother-in-law is a huge TOOL fan so I hear them quite a bit but never seek them out myself! As for Sepultura I had never heard of them, but after listening to a few of their hits I definitely appreciate their sound! I don’t think I have ever heard metal out of Brazil before!

Thanks again for the suggestions, always love being reminded of my old loves and finding new artists! :smiling_face_with_sunglasses::call_me_hand:

Today’s new music is a track called “Superbloom” by Isaac Winemiller from his Levels of Removal album. Very ethereal, very chill!

As for a go-to song, I have “The Goatriders Horde” by 3 Inches Of Blood from their Fire Up The Blades album! Super fast pasted and heavy as hell!

I definitely appreciate any and all suggestions but unfortunately, from what I understand, because I’m using an iPhone to run the Sober Time app YouTube links always end in an error message, and it winds up bogging down the thread in unwanted jumps out of the app. I would appreciate from here on if you’d only post screenshots of the music, written descriptions, or Spotify/Apple Music links instead. @bluekoolaid_88 I know I mentioned something along these lines to you but I didn’t actually give you a reason why, so I’m just referencing you so I keep an even hand when it comes to “enforcing” the guidelines of this thread. I hope this doesn’t come across as rude or over the top, and I certainly hope it doesn’t stop you from sharing your music here! At the root of it, I just want a music thread that’s easy to use without all the jumps in and out of the app! Thanks for working with me on this!

As for your sobriety theme song, what’s the name of it? The link just goes blank and doesn’t give me any info, but I’d love to listen!

I’m a big fan of Coldplay as well, especially the song “Clocks”! I can’t say I’ve listened to them in some time though, so I appreciate you giving me a reason to dive back into their art!

Honesty I’m not really connected or aware of any underground music, but if I come across anything you’ll be the first person I mention when I post about it! I listened to “Clockwork” by Glass Violet and really enjoyed it! Maybe you should be the one recommending the underground artists to me! :smiling_face_with_sunglasses::call_me_hand:

No worries, I appreciate your understanding!

I did end up listening to that song and really enjoyed it! I definitely appreciate supporting less “on the radar” bands!

I was commissioned about 6 years ago to make some album artwork for a local band called Carpool Tunnels! The single they used my artwork for is called “Echo with a Rerun”. I’m not sure if they are still together but their music is still available to listen to on Spotify. Maybe give them a listen! From my short experience hanging with them they seemed to be some pretty cool dudes!

Hope you have a peaceful day as well! :smiling_face_with_sunglasses::call_me_hand:

Totally understand.. after all this is your music thread. Will make sure to just type the song out from now on. YouTube is where I listen to the majority of my music and forget sometimes other people cant load the link or hear it..

For me today my music listening was all over the place but I really been playing a lot of Ray Charles and Otis Redding the most today.. Also trying to think what my next vinyl purchase will be .. almost just want to get something from the 90s or early 2000s that I know for sure is good, I really haven’t got into digging through crates yet mostly just buying new records

Otis Redding - Mr pitiful
Ray Charles - I got a woman

I may have started the thread, but enough people have contributed to it to call it ours! :smiling_face_with_sunglasses::call_me_hand: I appreciate it!

Sometimes my music selection jumps around too! But other days one genre or artist will dominate the speakers!

I don’t own any records myself as I don’t have a record player to play them on. The only vinyl I’ve ever purchased was for my brother in law, by Joe Hisaishi performed by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra! If you enjoy Hayao Miyazaki’s Studio Ghibli films this is the record for you!

Thanks for the suggestions, those two are definitely outside of my usual repertoire. Looking forward to giving them both some attention!

New stuff for today is a track called “Sound of Violence” by Pebbl from her Moonbeams album. Synth, groove, and a solid feel good vibe.

My choice for a reliable, replay-able song will be “Jamestown Ferry” by Charley Crockett from his Lil G.L.’s Honky Tonk Jubilee album. Country has never been my favorite genre, but there is something about his lyrics and voice that rings true to me!

Spent on rainy days- Bright eyes

Off a rarities album called. Noise Floor from 94 - 2000 something. Was the first cd I bought from them at best buy maybe 15 or 20 years ago

Connor Oberst is one of my favorite song writers of all time and his lyrics are very relatable to me. He has been very open about his problems with drugs and mental health

Saw Bright Eyes in Orlando at the house of blues and a band called Cursive opened for them

I listened to the song you shered with me just a few minutes ago

Good vibes.

I just listened to it, I definitely relate to a lot of the lyrics as well! I wish I still had all the CD’s I bought back in the day. They got lost or junked in one move or another. I miss the physical nature of music sometimes!

I also checked out some of Otis Reddings work! I really enjoyed the song “You Send Me” from his Pain in My Heart album!

Thanks again for the suggestions!! I appreciate the expansion of my musical awareness!
