Since it seems the vast majority of peeps on here are American, all the political memes tend to be American. I really donā€™t know who half of them are. The orange one aside.
Personally, its all jokes as you say and itā€™s the offended who should actually look at themselves.
Id sooner there were no politics at all as I find politics boring and it has no place in my life. Iā€™d freely say that in the last election in the UK I spoilt my paper because I felt none of them were worth my vote. And I wanted to say something instead of nothing at all.
Iā€™ve really got no time for the idiots.

Here is the problem, what is a political meme? Are current events political? Are socioeconomics fair game? Where is the line?

If you canā€™t call it black and white, how are you going to police shades of grey?

I muted the thread for that reason. I no longer watch the news and definitely donā€™t want/need politics on TS. If they are separated. I will mute one and go back to enjoying the funny memes. Just one persons view, of course

Just logged on and got caught up on the last 50 post here. Holy shitā€¦ I think Iā€™m going to go check out the mental health memes now for my own sanity. lol

Defining political is something we have been thinking about too. Although to be clear, as moderators we donā€™t ā€˜policeā€™ threads, we review flags that people make. If we are active on a thread, or if we get messages from other forum members, we may put our own flags in for other mods to review.

Part of the thinking on this idea is that with the US elections coming up, political memes (i.e. mentioning a candidate, government - sassy has drafted a good working definition) this has the potential to go into overdrive. The meme thread is already going crazy with flags at the minute, lots of them, but not all, due to politics.

We are unsure if a separate thread would just descend into chaos or whether it might give people who donā€™t want to read that kind of stuff the chance to enjoy a meme thread. Maybe both?!

Iā€™m just sick of the flags. They do accumulate folks, and suspensions do follow.

Thereā€™s being too sensitive sure, there is also just being plain old insensitive and niether is right.

Keep it as it is :sunglasses:

I have nothing to add to this discussion that hasnā€™t already been brought up. However, on a tangential note, how do you mute threads/users? Does muting a thread or user remove them from view altogether? That would be ideal for me personally.

I came here for sobriety related discussion and emotional support, free of political ideology. I welcome alternate philosophies and perspectives on life but I find too many people have deeply ingrained politics into their belief systems, which I find odd and slightly off putting.

I found the line!

Just separate the two meme categoriesā€¦

No one wants to be censored, and if you get butt-hurt from a political meme in the political meme thread than leave the political meme.

Since some have agreed to have a separate thread for political memes then why isnā€™t it done? If I make one will it be flagged banned? Yes as yā€™all know I love my political memes since its almost Nov 3, and I personally find it humorous and so do some others,so why not a separate thread. I know there are rules and guidelines on what you post but what about a thread that the offended donā€™t have to look at.

We are giving everyone time to weigh in with their opinions before trying the new experiment. I know you are itching to post! I was eager to begin as well!!

There are a twenty five thousand accounts, but I think a majority of them doesnā€™t look on here regularly or has relapsed. I think only 4% of those currently is active on here

Reflecting on why I dislike political memes. I personally donā€™t get most US political memes. I donā€™t have a clue who Nancy Pelosi is. So it seems in my eyes like people are making fun of her for no reason. But on the other hand I find most trump jokes hilarious because I do know him somewhat. I think this may be a problem for many non-american members.
I think thereā€™s a bit of blame on both sides. The American political memes wonā€™t be understood by everyone, but in the other hand, the people like me, who are unintentionally hypocritical are also wrong for being hypocritical. I think a US meme thread instead of a political meme thread could also be a good solution

I think that events that are happening as a result of politics are fair to meme also.

I posted a meme that had a dodge truck with blood red highlights to mimic running protesters over.

Dodge releases protester edition was the title.

It was flagged.

The current event in the US are insane. And there are alot of hilarious memes.

As an American trying to stay sober through the insanity. Making fun of it is all I can do to cope with it all.

As long as im not posting rascist, personal attacks, or promoting violence. It shouldnt get flagged.

The meme was an obvious joke. Nobody is going to scratch their fifty thousand dollar truck on protestors making them late for work.

As I find memes, I save the ones that make me laugh. Now that I have gotten to know the people who frequent the thread, as I share them I think @Salty will love this one, or @liv_m will love this one, or @ReneeAnn is going to crack up when she sees this. It makes the thread funner for me.

Until it gets flagged by the meme police. Then its not very fun anymore.

Then all the people who hardly participate in the thread start calling the moderators in adding to the drama.

Thats they only time they participate. Most of the time the thread flows smooth. Where were they then?

As the thread gets back on track, they call moderators back in for something that has already been addressed. Then thereā€™s more drama clogging up the thread.

They are the problem.

I think a lot of people participate by just reading. Iā€™ve read all meme threads, but I donā€™t have a source to find new memes, since for me that would be close to relapse. I always got my memes from Reddit and YouTube. YouTube is definitely a no go and Reddit as a grey area
