Well, I was sober for 18 days then fell off the wagon for a 6 day bender. Stopped 4 days ago. Usual withdrawal. Feeling better now. Managed a 10 mile hike yesterday. Boredom is a problem as I am not working at the moment (lost my last job due to drinking). Determined to stay sober but I have said that countless times before .
Boredom is a problem for many of us
Maybe itās time to discover a new hobby ore do some volunteer work?
If you type in āhobbyā into the search bar above you will find many threads and ideaās!
Walking is a big part of my recovery as well. In the beginning of it I walked daily. When I had cravings I walked with a recovery podcast like ārecovery elevatorā for example.
Congratulations for your day 4, back on track!
Many of us said it countless times before it stuck. Glad youāre back at it. My mama always says where thereās a will thereās a way. You can do this!
Thanks, still being good
Youāre very welcome.
This might just be me, but, you know when you day dream and say if I won the lotto I wouldā¦ Several of mine are things I could do if I more so had the time, not the money.
Like, if I won the lotto Iād learn to play guitar (because I wouldnāt have to work so Iād have the time),
If I wonāt the lotto Iād go to college full time and study criminal psychology, or Iād learn a language like Latin (some things we can study without college and with free resources online).
Being unemployed is not ideal by any means, it makes life very difficult, but is there anything you would like to do that would help fill your time? Ever wanted to write a book? Learn something new?
I have developed an exercise regime and started reading again. Had enough of Netflix! Iām trying to get out hiking .I honestly look for jobs to do at home. I cleaned the windows this morning. They are large. Might start on some ironing after grocery shopping
Iām glad you made it back. This time.
I find HOPE in going to meetings.
I just moved 5 or 6 months ago and exploring all the different kinds of Al-Anon and AA meetings in my new area has been pretty exciting. Thereās so many of them. Even when I have to drive 40-50 minutes. And I just keep going back. I love being around people that are trying not to pick up that first drink. After my meeting today Iām going on a hike.
I wish you well.
Exercise and reading are two things I also love to do. If I could read as many books as I buy Iād be a very well read person
How are you?
Hi tailee17,
Thanks for asking.
Well, today is day 9 of sobriety. Iām OK, my appetite is back but sleep is still terrible. Last night decided not to take a sleeping tablet and accordingly had a poor nightās sleep. I just donāt want to keep relying on medication to be able to sleep. My GP has prescribed me Sertraline to hopefully lift me up but it takes 6-8 weeks to kick in. See how that goes. I am also taking 200mg a day of Thiamine.
I have found an AA meeting near me on Sunday mornings, so I am going to go along this Sunday and see what its all about. Canāt hurt.
So really, just taking it one day at a time. I must admit I nearly had a wobble yesterday, but I just kept reminding myself how horrible withdrawal is. The gremlins in my head saying just once, but I know that is never the case and always results in a bender.
How are you?
Mark
Well today is a disaster
Would you like to share? I am here to listen.
Fallen off
Do you want to hear āWell get back up and get back onā? If not ā¦ I hope you can find comfort and peace.
You checking in here is the best course of actionā¦
So drunk a litre of vodka
And the sad thing I want more
Im sorry to hear ur struggling right now Mark Whats going on? The best thing u can do is to not keep drinking. I know its tough but it will just make things sooo much worse. Is there anything else u can do right now to distract urself?
Well fallen against
Have you looked into going to meetings, recovery centre getting more active on here when I first got sober I spent hours everyday on here , I went to 6-7 meetings a week, got a sponsor and worked the steps, I read sobriety books, l phoned people from AA every day and generally kept myself as busy as possible and stayed away from anywhere that sold alcohol
