I’ve searched the forums but can’t find anything on this so thought I’d ask the question. I’d say I’ve been a consistent drinker for most of my life. I had blood tests done for something else and the dr called me to say my ferritin was very high (500+) we talked about have much I drank and she suggested I cut down and we retest in a month. I’ll be honest a quick google scared me so much I’ve decided to (try again to) quit completely. So far I’m 7 days which is more than I’ve managed before . My question is , is it possible to reduce these levels or have I likely done irreversible damage ? Since quitting I feel an ache in my back (liver) I don’t know if this is psychosomatic and I’m really panicking, I feel angry with myself for letting it ever get this far . I feel I’ve let my family down . Just need some reassurance it not too late for me ![]()

Men: ~30-400 ng/mL so yah 500 is high.
Alcohol can damage the liver and worsen iron overload, so moderation or avoidance is key.. So you’ve taken a step in the right direction by stopping. Only the doctors can find the root cause but taking it upon yourself to stop is a wise choice.
My blood test results from almost 5 yrs ago made me stop drinking. And Im still sober. You can do this!!
