Hi! I’m happy to discover this app. I have tried to quit drinking for several years now, I have been to a therapy, taking Escitil etc. I installed this app around 2 weeks ago, and went to my first AA meeting, but after 6 days of being sober, I fell back again. Last 5 days I have been drinking every night again. Today I woke up with a terrible hangover. I’m so tired of this, I feel so guilty and so ashamed. This time I want to be for good, I so don’t want to drink anymore. Can you please tell me, what else has helped you? I don’t have a partner, I’m alone with 2 kids, and I think it makes it harder, not having support at home.
Hi Lizzy, welcome here in this community ![]()
What helped me a lot was being here. Being here to read and write and learn about my addiction. First year of my recovery I was here each day and today 7 years later I’m still here a lot.
Getting sober isn’t “just quitting” it’s a whole lot more. You have to change a lot. For most of us drinking is a coping strategy. It’s how we deal with all our emotions. So if we quit demping those with our habit we has to deal with them another way. For me I made a plan with some kind of a strategy to help myself trough the early months. I will share that thread with you:
Another thread that maybe useful for you is this one: Checking in daily to maintain focus #80 - #3 by Lucalds . I used it every day to check in and so keep myself accountable.
Connection is key, so connect! Do it here ore in AA ore both! It will help!
See you around, you can do it! ![]()
Thank you so much!
Welcome Lizzy! I started my journey with the mindset of “One day or Day one.”
Change your perspective. Do not downplay the 1-day achievement as it represents the beginning of your new chapter. For me, I had to change my environment and certain friends. I began doing things I used to do like painting or playing basketball.. setting aside one hour to start a few times a week before fully throwing it into my routine. The biggest source of help I’ve had has been group therapy and/or AA meetings for sure.
Don’t be. We’re all been there and to move forward you need to forgive yourself and learn from the mistake. Don’t give up! You’ll figure it out
Keep going to AA and when you’re there share all of what you’ve said to us and ask for a sponsor and start working the 12 steps. It’ll occupy your time and make you feel good.
And keep yourself plugged in here, you’re in the right place and you’re being very brave sharing your story. You aren’t a failure, you’re just learning how to be sober, it takes practice.
this is all just my humble experience and i don’t mean to sound bossy but this is what has worked for me
